The issue I have with this game is the under use of the Time-Travel aspect of the story in the mechanics - fundamentally, you could reframe "The Past" region in this game as any fantasy "other world" with minimal edits. No clever "hide X item in the past so that you can get it in the future" type stuff. This is a bit of a shame when you look at a previous Level-5 time-travel JRPG- "Dark Chronicle" (or Dark Cloud 2 if you are of an American persuasion). That had far stronger use of its time periods where you would build little towns in the past and then travel to the future, seeing changes appear as you built each town up.
