Yep, it's certainly more accessible than "Beau." Aster's always been an incredible technical filmmaker. I respect "Hereditary" more than I like it, but both it and "Midsummar" are incredible accomplishments in terms of craft. They work so well, doing difficult things in ways that look effortless - the way they transition, the way they land their horror beats, the use of light and composition.

I thought Eddington was exceptional. Feels wrong to be seeing this film in August though - it's a November to March (depending on awards confidence) movie. The technical aspects are easy to overlook when the movie seems to have so much to say, but it looked gorgeous. So well lit. I dunno why that stood out so much, but it did. Anyway, I like the idea of it being a movie about jurisdiction and separation as that's a neater way of explaining some of my own feelings. I haven't seen Beau is Afraid, but I was concerned that Eddington might have been more inaccessible based on BiA's reputation - but actually I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This is interesting, because I only really jumped aboard the Aster train, as it were, with "Beau is Afraid." I've since revisited and come around on "Midsommar", but "Hereditary" remains a movie that I appreciate and respect more than I actually like, if that makes sense?

I liked this one a lot, too. It might become my favorite Ari Aster film, and that's saying something because I'm a huge Hereditary and Midsommar fan. The more I saw the film, the more the feeling of general dread I felt during 2020 crept upon me. I would've like to see more of the Austin Butler cult to understand how it fits into the satire. Maybe we could hope for a director cut like with Midsommar. I also wonder if after this one, more films set during that time are going to be produced.
