Bond Dynamics Soft Launch
This drop serves as a soft launch for bond dynamics, giving us space to discuss them and make changes to them before they're fully implemented across all routes.
What's changing from the original BoS? The bondweaves of +[x] bond points are gone. Similar to the stats, you'll now have a 0 - 100 scale with each love interest. There are no right or wrong ways to impact your bond, only different ones. Essentially, you will spend the prelude defining your relationship with Serax and Valdricht. Through interactions, you will teach them how to respond to you. Each story route has its own set of dynamics. To better explain, let me show you the dynamics I've created for Classic Route along with the tropes I've used for inspiration.
Classic Route | Serax Dynamic | Combustive
Notification: Your dynamic sharpens with tension.
An MC with a combustive dynamic with Serax will enjoy verbally sparring with him, teasing him, and generally being challenging. She does not provoke him with loud defiance, but with cutting restraint and sharp wit. Serax will see her at once as a rival and a prize. Initially desiring to outwit her, he'll soon lust to conquer her. Their tension-soaked debates will often feel like they could end in a fight or a kiss. This dynamic will most often be linked to positive shifts in the MC's stoic, provocative, and erudite traits.
Tropes: enemies-to-lovers, rivals in love, ice queen & firebrand
Classic Route | Serax Dynamic | Kindling
Notification: Your dynamic kindles with warmth.
The gentleness to his gruff, an MC who has a kindling dynamic with Serax will meet his fiery temper with warmth. Initially suspicious of her soft, temperate nature, Serax may double his efforts to draw out her venom. This MC is unafraid to hold up a flame in Serax's darkness, shining a light on what is good and banishing his demons. This dynamic will most often be linked to positive shifts in the MC's tender, demure, and intuitive traits.
Tropes: sunshine & grump, hurt/comfort, I see the monster and I still love you
Classic Route | Valdricht Dynamic | Anointed
Notification: Your dynamic strengthens with resolve.
An MC who has an anointed dynamic with Valdricht follows him, but not blindly. She speaks little, listens more, and questions freely, unafraid to match Valdricht's dominance with cool resolve. This MC isn't aggressive or combative, but elegant and poised. She endures his efforts to make her bow, and he may yet come to regard her as his equal. This dynamic will most often be linked to positive shifts in the MC's stoic, defiant, and erudite traits.
Tropes: power couple, slow burn, respect as foreplay
Classic Route | Valdricht Dynamic | Devotee
Notification: Your dynamic stirs with devotion.
An MC who shares the Devotee dynamic with Valdricht chooses him--utterly and without shame. She does not argue with his control; she invites it. Not because she is powerless, but because she sees the god beneath the ruin and offers him grace. Her surrender is not weakness, but devotion to something greater than herself. This dynamic will most often be linked to positive shifts in the MC's tender, devout, and intuitive traits.
Tropes: worship kink, love that redeems, devotion as a love language
Implementation: Right now, the Classic Route has your first triggers for both Serax's and Valdricht's dynamics. They'll begin subtle but your dynamic expressions will become more pronounced as the prelude advances and you define your relationships. Following the next time you sleep in-game, you will wake with a new menu bar item that will allow you to see how your dynamic is shifting and give you details on how your current dynamic affects your interactions.
There will be gradients between these, to the extent that it doesn't become overly difficult to code. These nuances will be where your traits will factor heavily from Act I onwards. For example, you can be an Idealistic Devotee whose vibe is Valdricht is my everything and I trust him implicitly or a more Cynical Devotee who is more I adore Valdricht, but I recognize he's not perfect.
Purpose: The relationship dynamics system functions as a narrative boundary, ensuring that your MC's personality traits operate in a consistent framework within each relationship. It also offers an interesting incentive for players who play multiple routes, allowing them to explore unique relationship profiles.
Conclusion
Be on the lookout for those notifications next time you play Classic. I've added more to the Classic Route this morning. For those who have played the Fated Mates route Friday update, the content is quite similar, albeit with a slightly different vibe and two additional passages.
I'm going to be writing the Dark Maiden version of this scene tonight and tomorrow morning. It's more linear so it should be ready by tomorrow afternoon. I'll also let you know about the Dark Maiden dynamics when I post that update. Please remember that if you asked me for an addition or modification that I didn't add, remind me again. I feel like I've forgotten to add something but all I had on my post-it was "smokey quartz eyes" and "fix cynic/idealist check."

So the different dynamics are very appealing. Giving Serax tit for tat sounds fun, but I'll always have such fondness for "kill it with kindness" approach. Considering I have (at least) 2 MCs kinda bouncing around for this, I'll be able to play both, however. Val's dynamics are also fun. Power Couple and Respect is Foreplay is so tempting, but I know my first route is gonna end up the devotee. Love that Redeems, I cannot not pick that one. Loved playing the route too. The little touch of his pupils dilating as Val was looking at MC? I rubbed my hands together like a little gremlin. I'm loving these little touches (cause, just like the glare from Serax, it tells so much with so little!) Also Serax being absolutely peeved at how MC talks. That's so fun. I cannot wait for her to continue to use big words, make him feel like the blonde he is. Also! I don't think I ever mentioned on the post you actually talked about coding, but I for one am always interested in learning more about Twine (because I'm terrible at it). You're already doing so much, so if it's too much please don't worry about it. But kind of like the Language Lessons, setting up little explanation of cool things you do in Twine would be really neat. Maybe it's just a Once a Month thing or such, but I think that'd be a fun addition.

Oh wow I love these dynamics. Adds a lot of replayability and the fact each route will have different dynamic styles - very cool. At first glances, Im really liking the idea of Kindling dynamic with Serax (gonna kill that man with sugar spice and everything nice) and I guess Ill have to flip a coin for Vals dynamic cuz damn, anointed and devotee are both sooo appealing.
