Have you ever seen a general therapist about a sex-related issue?π€

It's Saturday afternoon and I am trying to get some studying done. π§
I'm reading some articles about the lack of sex education in general therapy/counselor programs. Furthermore, how therapist/counsellors are ill-equipped to deal with sex related issues because they don't have good education and need to rely on their own biases and personal values.
Also, the education they do get is mostly related to how help sex-related problems , but never terms of how to achieve optimal sexual pleasure!
Also reading a lot about the influence of therapist values (especially in the United States, in the south more specifically) when it comes to religion and gender and so on.
My question for you all today is, have you ever saw a general therapist/counselor for a sex-related issue, or maybe it's something that came up in future sessions and how was your experience? And if you can elaborate on your experience (if you feel comfortable).
I am curious to know about your experiences, especially in the United States πΊπΈ

Hi ken! Thanks so much for sharing this. Just out of curiosity, what part of the United States? And do you think this stemmed from the therapists own biases? So sorry that happened to you... These are exactly the types of challenges I am reading about in terms of therapists not having enough sensitivity or sexuality Training to deal with things like this and end up placing their own biases and values on their patients.

Yes. I began seeing a therapist and I made it clear I wanted to talk about sexuality issues. I went weekly for a year when suddenly she went off and began accusing me of all kinds of perversions. I walked out and sent her a notice of termination.

Yes. Over the 50+ years of our marriage, I've seen 4 different therapists. Out of these four, my wife only saw the first two one time each. She is uncomfortable talking about our sexual relationship with me. More so with a "stranger". I gave up on "fixing" her, and have been working on myself. We have each had 3 extra marital relationships over the years. We each learned who the other's partners was. My last and present therapist has helped me a lot, but not about sex.
