I have a big text file where I keep story and scene ideas, character references, and resources. I don't really have a top-down design for the world, I just come up with scenes and fit them together, then the parts of the world that need to exist come out of that. A lot of it is just hand waving, but it's planned enough so that I could connect the loose ends if I have to.
Do you keep a design document for this world or do you just let it roll around the ol' brain? I really like the references to the wider world and it's conflicts that put this one "guy"s capture and transformation into context.
