"Why are we so stupid?" By nature, men are direct communicators. We need to learn to understand indirect communication and it can take decades. Women are indirect communicators, and need to learn to accept direct communication, particularly from men, without other queues. To this day my wife will ask me "What did he mean?" Me: "What did he say again?.... That's what he meant." That aspect is not portrayed as often.
