To be honest it’s not really a question of season, the anime follow the light novel pretty faithfully so it’s the pace of the initial material 😊 I can understand why people might dislike it but personally I love the yapping in Slime 😁

No spoiler tags available here, so I won't say much but "picking up" in this case basically stands for no more characters we know just talking about pretty irrelevant things to the plot, however good those parts are

To me, if you'll recall, there still needs to be a synch-up of events, plus some more meeting. Maybe Ep. 6?

While I would never consider this kind of episode "boring", I would say that it definately doesnt make for the best reaction material. That being said (if it plays out like I think it will), next episode is where the arc really starts picking up for the better imo.

That Time I Was Reincarnated Into A Bunch Of Meetings That Could Have Been Emails. On a more serious note, this problem was also present in the first half of the second season, where you basically had two episodes back-to-back where they did almost nothing other than discussing things. The way they structured it in the first episode this season felt better, because they actually had an entire developing story that was actively happening, we just got told about it retroactively. But when the episode mostly consists of planning and reminding us of characters most of us already know, it starts to drag. I think the second half of the second season did this much better, where the discussions and the action were staggered. You had some initial planning, then the Benimaru and the "army" went to fight against Clayman's troops. During these fights, you had other discussions about the plans for Walpurgis, then had Shuna, Souei and Hakurou go and attack Clayman's castle. Whilest they fought, Rimuru prepared for Walpurgis and departed there. It gave a nice mix of exposition and action.

i dont rly get why soo many dont like those "down time" episodes bevore the next big events.. they build soo much of the world and explain the aftermaths of the big events u just went threw and also its important for a story to get itself together again allways trying to upstage ur last plot point without buildup just ends in bad story writing anyways... i kinda miss such episodes in overlord cause there is soo much behind the scenes stuff lost in the anime adaption cause they dont take the time to show it sadly

Honestly, I have been rereading the books, and when I got to this part, I couldn't figure out how they were going to explain this whole thing, and the answer is: charts! Ok, not just charts. But, the writing was so stupendously lucid, I want to nominate the scriptwriter for some kind of award. This explains everything, and there are a lot of exact quotes, but somehow they condensed it into a beautiful, coherent and efficient whole, while being both natural and not overly expository. I was worried that due to its complexity they would give up and omit large parts of it. It even showed off Raphael in a way they don't often do in the anime. Those charts were not in the LN...... One relatively minor thing: they casually announced that all the Kijin are now Oni, which is the highest level of the race scale for ogres. Not that they can't become stronger. They paired it with a joke where Gobta called Hakurou and Soei, "oni", which is a common insult in Japanese, meaning mean, cruel person. The irony is, yes, they are. That's also not how they did it in the LN.
