Hmm that's interesting too. I was more looking at it in the sense that even if someone was a horrible person, they might still hold real love for their families, especially in this case where Lelouch was presumed dead when he was much younger. Your version makes a bit more sense though yeah.

When Euphy is speaking about his gentleness I think it's actually does a good job of showing the opposite. Clovis perhaps once had a part of him that was kind and loving but the poison of Brittanian rule corrupted him. While she has empathy for the Japanese he was willing to massacre the Shinjuku ghetto's civilian population just to hide the evidence of his ambitions.

A very very interesting detail that almost everyone misses on their first watch is that among Clovis' paintings was one where much younger Lelouch, Nunally and his late mother were depicted. It's really interesting, as it shows that though Lelouch resents his siblings for their inaction or even involvement in his mother's assassination, Clovis still truly loved him as a brother, seeing as he painted them.

Not sure if you noticed but at the start of the episode the emperor said he was talking to Clovis, the half brother Lelouch killed at the start of the show.
