Glad u realized u can just sit back and enjoy instead of trying to predict every possible story path (though I get that it’s natural to speculate.) anime for me became much more enjoyable when I had no expectations. Predicting stuff to be right will be gratifying short term but it won’t be as enjoyable as being surprised imo.

from my understanding, demons arent widely believed in. Theyre real, but more like a myth and not everyone believes they are actually real.

In my opinion, the show doesn’t really find its footing and get great until episode 19 specifically. After that, it’s all great. It’s not bad before that, just sorta generic. The production values eventually get truly ridiculous lmao

I felt kinda bad when Tony was making an effort to get down the names of all the siblings... Also with the old man in the woods the implication is that it is not the norm to believe that truly demons do exist, and as he mentions there his grandmother used to talk about demons suggesting that no one else in his upbringing or community really talks about them. Being a japanese anime first, these shows often assume you kind of have a base level knowledge of japanese spiritual and cultural beliefs, and that stories about demons are not unheard of but aren't something the average person believes or worries about.

From the first episode tanjiro mostly wants answers to save his sister. So not yet has a way or goal. But searching for any answers. I definitely wouldn't go into this anime with any specific kind of expectations (no offense to the lovers of this anime) but it does slow down a couple of times. I know many friends that have dropped this anime, do to expecting too much of the story and got bored.

The ending was the OP it's "Gurenge" by LiSA and was the number one streamed anime opening on Spotify up until last month when it was finally passed by another (this came out in 2019) over 400m Spotify streams of Gurenge! This opening was even featured during the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!

FINALLY DEMON SLAYER

Not Chinese style, Demon Slayer and some other Japanese media sometimes use these modernized/orchestral renditions of traditional Japanese theatre music. There's at least nagauta, tokiwazu and kiyomoto. All have their origins in kabuki and traditional dancing, effectively making that type of music also, in a way, soundtracks. It's usually something to do with that if you hear that sorta "buddhist mantra" singing and the very distinct string instruments (I'm not gonna pretend like I know which ones they are specifically every time, but shamisen is the most common iirc, and also the biwa). There's a tsugaru shamisen player I really like called TENBI, her playing almost made me want to learn the instrument once.
