C.C showed Lelouch her memories because she secretly cares for him and doesn't want to die, depsite her saying that she does. She's been living since Medieval times when she inherited the nun's immortality, and is sick of living after hundreds/thousands of years. Geass users who obtain the "final" stage of Geass (Lelouch) can inherit the previous owner's immortality, allowing the giver of the Geass (C.C) to finally die.

Ah yes the immortal witch sub story. They kinda do just open the curtains in regards to how and why for Geass powers at this point. But kinda makes sense since Lelouch did just kinda Genocide the whole Geass underground city/order. Instead of nickel and dimming the lore around it they just start handing out 50s and go "try to make cents (sense) outa this"

Tldr, C.C said "kill me" Lelouch said "can't" Charles said "bet" Lelouch said "you don't want die you want love" C.c. said "real" And now she all memory wiped cause Lelouch started blasting.

This part of the anime kind of reminds me of The Man in the High Castle where it went from a series about rebellion to something a "little" different.
