So with Kyoto: Stereotypical is that people from there will always be nice and polite even when they hate you. So "you shouldn't take what she says at face value" means that just because she acts friendly, doesn't mean she likes you.

GBC is a fun show to watch with the cool 3d visuals but yeah its nothing that will blow your mind about. As you mentioned I feel people enjoyed this show more simply for the visuals and not having an over positive story, but glad to atleast know you are finding it a fun one to watch
