Hey, no worries and I appreciate the feedback. I think it's more of a stylistic choice in some sense. I understand it can feel like the most satisfying outcome in every scenario is for Brynn to be so powerful that he overcomes everything without help. But I think what I've done if you look closely has always been a blend of competence and reliance on allies. I have seen a few deus ex machina comments here and there, and it's completely fair. Those people aren't wrong at all. I know there are a lot of lit-RPG stories where the MC is overpowered because they have the best skills and abilities and the story is essentially a fun exercise in watching them stomp their way through increasingly huge challenges. There's nothing wrong with those and I enjoy quite a few of them myself. But I haven't ever thought of Level One God as that kind of story. To me, becoming what Brynn needs to become isn't just about his own personal power. It's about relationship dynamics and alliances, which is something this tourney is kind of a microcosm for. The grommets, for example, while they could definitely be argued were a deus ex machina moment here, could also be explained as an alliance paying off and developing. Part of being a god in a fantasy world (in my view) would be having people and eventually entire races and civilizations who are loyal to your cause. For now, Brynn is only the second power rank and despite his advantages, he can't realistically be expected to be the strongest guy in the room in every circumstance. So for me, it is just a lot more fun to show how his alliances and relationships are helping him overcome what should be some relatively impossible odds. But I also think if you look back at the moments that have felt like deus ex machina, Brynn always has a moment to shine and show his competence prior to the moment. Here, for example, he provided a ton of healing and made sure a strategic weak point was passed along as quickly as possible. He was also the one who thought to push the constructs in closely and that tactic won the fight. And he grabbed Elora and, with her help, took out the first archer and then soloed the second. I could have ended the scene there and just said the grommets came in later and provided some materials. Instead, it was more fun and more of a payoff (in my mind) to have them join in the fight when things got crazy. But even within that moment, Brynn still was pivotal in finding out how to bring down the commander. So while I do understand the comments I've seen about it, I also just want to say that it's not happening this way because I'm lazy or unaware of it. It's more that I have a purpose for these moments and really all the little moments that I think are going to be parts of what makes the series feel like such a huge payoff for those who stick with it. And I also can't promise Brynn is always going to be the strongest person on the page. Cassian looks overpowered for now, but with Brynn's progression speed, a lot of these people are almost providing power benchmarks we can realistically expect to watch Brynn blow past in time, which will make those moments all the more satisfying. (last note on Rake: I think saying anything is out of character for Rake is tough because he's borderline insane. That's part of what makes him such a dangerous character. For Vitus, I see that as an alliance paying off and, as a reader, that would be a satisfying moment for me versus a frustrating one For Cassian, he explicitly told Brynn back in Beastden that he has a task for him - something only Brynn can help with. Cassian is banking on Brynn surviving to get more powerful and he told him as much, so we don't have to guess about why he's helping him for now) Anyway, I hope none of that comes off as defensive or upset. I do appreciate the feedback and thought you put into it. I just wanted to kind of explain my own thought process and hope that helps it make sense.

Hi Zack, I am really enjoying this story - thank you! I have a comment for your consideration. I think you might be leaning a little too hard on plot armor here- Brynn has now been saved by Rake, Vitus, Cassian, and the Grommets all within 3 chapters. I thought Rake was the one that was most out of character. It's hard to imagine him deciding to wait to end Brynn. The interaction with Vitus makes sense. Cassian seems way too powerful. I'm hoping you have a good reason why he's helping so overtly. The grommets were a masterstroke. Womp! I've been thinking about how you could make the interaction with Rake a little more in character. So far, Brynn has not used his Devour Mana ability offensively, but there is no reason why he couldn't use it to drain an opponent's mana entirely, right? You would have to answer the question of what happens if he uses it on an uninjured person, but it seems like there is opportunity there for him to use it creatively. Maybe he needs to infuse the ability with just a drop of dark mana. Getting back to Rake, I think it would read well if Rake dispatches the noble, then moves toward Brynn intending to kill him, and Brynn reaches out and drains (or starts to drain) his mana. The shadows vanish, and Rake decides to retreat for now. You could also consider having him drain the Gemini twins, which would then make Cassian look a little less overpowered when he takes them down. Then when Brynn approaches the fort, he's feeling pretty good about his capabilities, and then the automatons are not affected by his Devour Mana. Hope I'm not overstepping by suggesting a retcon. Thanks again for the story!

TYFTC! Man, I like the little lore drop on the grommets, that was kinda cool! Now Voidgaze is definitely a game changer for Brynn. The use of the crafting will help them out too. Let's see if Voidgaze has a map of the area and he can then start min/maxing hi next steps.
