Haven’t caught up to the latest patreon yet, so immediate thoughts: I get the complaints about this development, but I don’t think it comes nearly as out of nowhere as people are claiming? Nor is it nearly as big of a betrayal as people are claiming. Both Scarlet and Rosa have expressed before that if there was a chance of them being able to stop Arlene from her slaughter they would do so and that is literally the exact situation as this except this isn’t a weird time loop thing. So Rosa taking action isn’t out of character now that she can finally do something about the massacre she’s had to helplessly witness countless times before. As for the betrayal, it’s not like Rosa attacked anyone. What seems to be happening is that as soon as Scarlet leaves the dome Rosa can collapse the whole thing. Her plan seems to have been to kill herself in here to save the civilians which is why she calls it a dumb heroic sacrifice (which Anguish has been manipulating her into doing this whole time because when Rosa dies Malachi won’t be able to finish the ritual and Anguish will go back the Blazes still in power). Strictly speaking, all Scarlet needs to do is let Rosa die. After thinking about it while typing this out I think like this? It’s important for the story that Scarlet doesn’t let Rosa die (at least without trying her hardest to save her), because if she does then that means that Scarlet really does just see Rosa as a pet. If she abandons her the moment Rosa showed any agency against one of Scarlet’s decisions it means that Rosa would truly have just been gaining a new owner after Anguish is beaten. Do I think this was handled perfectly? No, but what story is always handled perfectly. It’s not like I can think of specific ways it could be improved and overall I like this development.

Again, while this is not entirely satisfying... if I think of it from a writing standpoint, the alternative was to have Scarlett's master plan succeed and the whole village probably slaughtered. Rosa would have felt guilty. She would have moped around, and readers would have been pissed off at her for crying for the fanatics. Hopefully, Scarlett saves Rosa and then they can move past this unfortunate incident. I don't agree with most of the more virulent negative comments. But I do feel like Rosa's speech at the end could be reworked a bit.

This is so absolutely stupid and I am regretting having joined this Patreon for every chapter I am reading and hoping and wishing yo find some redemption for this humongous stupidly plot that has formed. The book was so exciting and enjoyable to read. I am still hoping there is some good reason or redemption when I catch up to the extra chapters. If not what a waste of money

Joined Patreon and I am so confused. The villagers were already escaping behind the shield...Rosa made the situation worse, so what is she even blabbering about ? And Why does she *suddenly* care about the Tribe of Sin ? The last couple of chapters don't make any sense to me.

I disagree with a lot of the comments. One of Rosa's defining characteristics is her capricious and consistent refusal to be exactly what Scarlett wants. She has consistently served Scarlett's interest while also disobeying her direct orders. This seems like growth for Rosa. It seems like Rosa being a person instead of a set piece in Scarlett's story.

Hum, comments be spicy. I suggest reading with a little salt, this is your story after all. That being said, this kind of reaction does suggest you miss-managed reader expectations (in this case of how Rose and Scarlet act, etc). So you'll likely want to do something about that, either changing events slightly and/or add foreshadowing so the current events line up better with expectations. (Unless this kind of reaction was what you were trying to invoke, but I somehow doubt that.) Though perhaps it will be solved by the next events.

This ending was pretty disappointing for this arc. I don't see any end for Rosa that isn't death or becoming a villian. It would be extremely out of character for Scarlett to include her on any future plans after this betrayal. Especially when this betrayal wasn't even for a noble cause. Scarlett has been ruthless when it comes to loyalty overall. She already killed a companion for less than this. I understand the need to have a twist where something didn't go her way but this just fell flat for me.

I don't get most of these comments. Rosa is a traumatized individual who felt she had no control over her life. Her visits to Feymedow where she interacted with the kids and locals showed her how this village could end up. This also probably reminded her of the village Anguish destroyed through her. So her trying to enact her will on the world in some way the second she has the freedom to do so makes sense to me. Comments are calling her dumb like they've never made an incorrect decisions in their entire lives. Talking like she really should be nothing more than a puppet dancing to Scarrlets tune smh

Let’s see how the next chapter goes, but please do consider the comments before publishing. Jackal Among Snakes had a similar situation and made edits from it. I can see a bit more how Rosa is thinking and more importantly feeling, but would like to suggest there could be more lead in or hints to her behaviour which feels erratic, depressed, suicidal. Like a breakdown and in a way a kid acting out, feeling worthless and secretly hoping someone will save them. I am optimistic more will be revealed, but do suggest reviewing the layup.

Yeah, instead of artificially making the characters dumber and more pathetic than they need be, like how Rosa here basically does an Oppenheimer, just because that gets into Scarlets way, maybe use more engaging or thought out stuff to bring a twist to it. Because that shit invalidated her Character. This feels like Activision|Blizzard making every character go Giga unhinged at the correct time to fuck shit up. This feels unimaginative and is not interesting to read is what I’m trying to get across. Just try to think about the last two chapters, and then create a Synopsis of them. Then lay the Zoidberg Sound effect over it and you see that it fits. This feels like a derailment. Especially now, after the whole Rosa Crowcairn thing being such a good read. Alas. Thanks for the chapter.

That whole void thing didn’t seem ominous or what not with world tripping out while some inconceivable being watches on. The world and Rosa have gone illogical and erratic (damn bard wanting to go out the hero of her own story). I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop at this point whatever that may be. Rosa helped tie a series of nice tidy events into a Gordian knot, Scarlett’s standing in the middle with some bugged out skill, hmm.

This is probably not the ending quite yet, Rosa is probably going to be saved by whatever scarlet had Fynn meet the deacon for

Sorry this Rosa Arc really has the dumbest ending😂
