Oh yeah he was definitely gloating, in the ep when ryuk tells him hey you can get the eyes now you know , light immediately got pissed off mentioning that he wont be cornered by the "likes of her" bcs he sees himself as someone superior to others so after his initial panic and when she fell in his trap he tells her sadistically that he is kira bcs he knows she cant do anything about it now. I feel so bad for her and ray , they both died with their killer laughing at them

Can't tell you how many times I've seen this episode, it's still just as good. I agree with you that he was kinda making fun of her at the end, he's obviously gloating. One of his main reasons for using the Death Note in the first place was because he was bored, life was too easy for him. He has always just gone through the motions without ever facing a challenge because he's too smart for people, but Naomi did become that challenge. The thrill of beating her is obvious and I think it makes perfect sense for his character to gloat. Light kinda has the "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy" mentality

This episode was the one to 100% hook me. The tension was on another level.

Oh good point. Well he still said it in somewhat of a seemingly condescending way if you'd ask me haha. He clearly ís becoming ruthless at least at this point

when light was asking her if she wanted to talk with his father he was making sure that she was 100% under the spell of the death note

Yeah man, I was still kinda in disbelief and wondering how she was gonna word it but that told me everything

This episode is so sad honestly and that last line of her is so eerie... "There's something I have to do." And then you see the noose in the background... just brutal.
