Honestly, you can start and get through this spinoff without World Beyond - even though there are specific things that go to what WB was all about. The main thing to understand is the timeline, that Rick blew up the bridge at roughly the 3-1/2 year mark in the apocalypse. The early TV news broadcast mention at Ep1’s beginning of the city Omaha’s demise is at roughly the -10 year mark in the apocalypse. Michonne leaves TWD at ~11 years in, and TWD main show ends at ~12-13 years after The Fall.

There’s also the slight world beyond spoiler in a flashback somewhere in the rick grimes series but it’s not the end of the world.
