Behind the Scenes - A Look at the Scrapped Wild West Field Trip!

I've previously mentioned wanting to post some behind the scenes content here on Patreon, and today I'm excited to kick that off with what I think is the most significant piece of scrapped Baldi's Basics Plus content: A wild west themed field trip!
This was a field trip I was working on after the farm field trip but before I decided to revise field trips entirely. Once I made the decision to do that, I stopped working on this field trip before removing it completely from the game. However, I was able to dig up its old Git branch and take a look at what I had finished despite how long it's been since then!
In the video I talk a bit more about the assets I made for it, showcase a few of the oddities I encountered trying to access it and demonstrate the minigame in action. Unfortunately while making this video I adjusted some OBS settings and nuked the video quality without realizing it, so at the end of the video I've edited in some high quality, no commentary footage so you all can get a better look at things. Enjoy!
In the future, I may end up adding a new wild west themed field trip, but if I do it will, of course, take a completely different form than what you see here.

Man I Really Enjoyed This Video, I would Hope to see something like this in the future, I really like the Idea Of Baldi And The Player Do An Old west "Shoot" 'em up. Its Honestly A Great Idea! I Would Really Enjoy Playing That. Also So I can Take My Rage out on Baldi.

It's so cool to see behind the scenes, this is such a goofy field trip and I'm excited to see what it'll look like when it's remade! Also I find it funny how the text is all goofed up because of the extra kerning :P

My guess is that you moved/relocated the assets, so the .meta files didn't point to any valid asset anymore, which would likely cause Unity to auto generate one. Just a guess though... not 100% sure.

I've already considered both of these minigame concepts! I think a purely reaction based minigame (Different from Pick-Quick-Nic which also involves deduction) is kind of a shoe-in, so a quick draw game is likely. Meanwhile I think Johnny serving root beer in a saloon would be cool but I'm still brainstorming how that would work gameplay wise.

That's exactly what I did! Since textures and other audio/visual assets are large files and can't really have changes tracked, I opted to ignore them. It *does* track their associated .meta files which is why I don't understand why many of the sprites are using the wrong pixels-per-unit.

Your git doesn't track texture changes? That's weird, I swear you would have to manually configure it to do that using a gitignore...

this field trip would certainly be the most fun and creative of all, I hope the plunger returns in some way in a 2d minigame, even as a background decoration, I hope the 3d small city also returns as a field trip hub

I have an idea for the rework of it, if you end up adding it. The first mini game could be shooting targets that pop up on screen, it would be characters from the schoolhouse dressed appropriately, you would have to shoot plungers at them in a timely manner, also I think some targets should net you extra points or a penalty. As for the second mini game, I think it should take place in a saloon, maybe serving drinks. For the art style of the field trip, it could take after the town with no name because it has that crappy 90s style.

This looks amazing! I fully understand why it got scrapped in the end, but finally seeing the plunger in action including with fitting sound effects is absolutely amazing!! Maybe in a future field trip they could still be used somehow..? Either way, it was very interesting to see this entire project in action!

This is really cool! I love the idea of a shootout with Baldi and if the wild west field trip makes it into the final version of Plus, I'd be excited to see how it's be done in the new field trip format!
