i think the punchline is that maturosis is real

FateVoid

Now I wonder what would of happened if she adopted him in the beginning?

This is at the core of what is called People-Centered language and what the disability community has been fighting for for decades. See Me. Not the wheelchair. Not the label. Not the disease. See Me. As someone who uses a wheelchair to function, it is amazing how often I become invisible. People will almost always speak to my wife and ignore me if we are together. I’m am little more than a Little. Something to be dismissed as unworthy of consideration or attention beyond a pat on the head and a reminder to let the grownups talk. I think this is why Clark’s situation resonates so strongly with me. (As a side note, we love to go to car dealership together. It is hysterical watching the sales and service staffs heads spin trying to decide which of us to ignore and who to talk to. You can smell the smoke and hear the gears grinding to a halt. ) Brilliant job. Absolutely amazing. It is harsh, raw and ultimately cathartic. The payoff absolutely was worth the wait.

LOL, I feel like a fish being ever so slowly reeled in by an expert fisherman and storyteller!

This is all terribly heartwarming. Thank y'all. Thank everybody who has read.

I completely agree. Clark and Melony Beouf are two of my favorite people who only exist in my head.

A big thing about this story to me was the shifting relationship dynamics. I've had this scene in my brain since almost the beginning.

If it helps, I have answers to all of these.

The fact that you're comparing me to Dickens of all people...wow...I would have settled for much less.

Thanks for sticking around for the ride.

Me neither

I’m so sorry I didn’t read this sooner. This was AMAZING. It was emotional, compelling, and heart breaking all at once. You really get the feeling how much this has impacted everyone. Now I need to go back and reread the chapter his accident happened in because I feel like there is evidence there that he was set up. If I remember right the women said she could smell his mess before it had happened, hypnotic trigger maybe? Or maybe he is losing it, god I can’t wait to see where this goes from here

🤜 💢 🤛 (fist bump of solidarity)

Just for clarity: nothing I said before should indicate that I don't fully agree with KB. :-)

Thank you for continuing to give it your all on this series. Many would have felt daunted or even paralyzed by the pressure of “Chapter 100” but you nailed it. I loved your imagery about focusing on a tiny drop of water in the ocean because it’s the familiar drop within reach, as it reminds you that Clark is fighting against a systemic issue that goes so far beyond Boeuf. Boeuf just made it even more personal and hurtful when he befell the inevitable outcome of a Little living amongst Amazons. I look forward to chapter 101. I fear Janet will arrive to the classroom for pickup and be quickly shuttled away to talk about Clark in third person once again:/ Or perhaps it will simply be Melanie telling Janet “I’ll catch you up later” and the two of them exchanging knowing looks that grown ups cast to one another to let them know it’s important and not for a little one’s ears. Obviously I have tempered hopes when it comes to Melonie’s capacity for significant cognitive shift. If she is the one who ultimately helps him escape, I would be pleasantly surprised, but surprised for sure. Janet is more naive and perceives herself to be less of an expert on maturosis so her naivety and low confidence could make her more easily manipulated into helping him get free, but he’s her baby so I don’t see that happening- -Actually I’m going to stop rambling anout this because I don’t want you to get excited about the topic of helping Clark escape and make you more eager to share the ending with us any sooner than it must be. Rather, feel free to draw this out in Charles Dickens style for another 50 to 100 chapters;) Dickens could spend three pages talking about the twirling descent of a leaf onto a cobblestone walkway. Feel free to drag it out, lol. A whole chapter on lion and clark getting to nap with Janet? Sure! A chapter on getting a fresh haircut? Great. A chapter on the internal experience of just having a bottle in his mouth? Sign me up. I love Clark, sulky behavior and all.

Wow that was intense but yay for them both,,

I'm reminded of how in Star Wars, Obi-Wan belived the Anikin he knew was dead after he became Darth Vader only for Luke to prove that his father was still there. Although in this case, Clark showed Melony that he was still there.

Wow, so powerful. Now that they have a truce where will that lead Clark? We haven’t heard anything about Cassie other than the house burned down which is either a ruse to put the Amazons off her scent or the reality of her new situation as another regressed little, and then there is Ambrose and Tracy. Ambrose has it in for Tracy and is after Clark’s blood for his earlier stunt in her classroom. Does she have a plan to use Tracy to get to Clark? Seeing them both in diapers under her care as big sister and toddler brother for a weekend or longer while Beouf works out how to reconnect Clark with Cassie would be an interesting read.

I've just read the chapter and all of the responses before mine. This was a hell of a job, and I commend you for it. It's not easy to keep a story running for 100 chapters, but to do so and still have growth remaining in your characters—and evidence that they may yet achieve it—takes finesse. As does writing a vocally violent argument that reveals truly complicated emotional connections. Wow. Do you have any idea how much longer this story has to run? One of the unfortunate truths about web serials is that, unlike physical books, they leave the reader no way to gauge how much remains. Knowing that can color entire internal conversations we have while reading, but with an ongoing story, these conversations remain stubbornly stifled, devoid of any way of even beginning. I read novels on Kindle or Books a lot and, even though I can see the page counts, I miss the physical stimuli one receives just from seeing the remaining pages. Without even the page count, it's hard to know how to frame any revelations, character development, or plot twists we encounter. I realize this is an issue common to all serialized fiction. God knows that Dickens, the original serializer, took great advantage of it. So does Wildbow, who writes clever and fascinating web serials. And maybe they don't actually know the answer as they are writing. Maybe you don't either. Maybe I'm just being ridiculous. OTOH, I would argue that there is a fundamental difference between, for example, watching Season 4 of Stranger Things end while knowing that Season 5 will be the series finale...and watching it *without* knowing that. OK. I'm rambling now. Sorry. (But, seriously, do you know?)

Great job for a century of chapters! Very well written and the emotion totally leapt off the page. I think that makes the conversation after school on Wednesday change direction. And even maybe with Janet especially when she learns Clark heard the conversation. Melony will never see past her maturosis belief especially as she built her career on it but she likely will start to see all her students differently now. Ivy might have to move on as well. I look forward to 101! And maybe 100 more chapters!!

“Look! It be the rear of the goofy goobers!”

I found the insight about Clark not being dead to be very impactful, I remember my great grandma was 96 when I was talking to her, and she was starting to get dementia. We would always refer to her in regards to her dementia. It was never her talking, it was her dementia talking. Though she died at 97, to us she had died at 95. I found myself feeling a bit... sorrowful as I realized that I have been just as guilty of the same things as Beouf. I have reduced people down to their disorders at times, and I have dehumanized them in the process. Its weird to think that I have mentally killed people off in my life. They are no longer Peter or John or Jill, but their disorders. It made me realize that for all the criticizing that I do of the Amazons, I have been just as guilty of the same behaviour. This chapter, had made me realize that I can be just as blind, and ignorant as the Amazons. It's always the marks of a great author when you can look inwards and draw a deep moral lesson from it, so in that regard, thank you. I hope this doesn't offend you but sometimes I can also think this way of people with mental disabilities. If someone with Autism were to start breaking down, I may not think of that individual having different needs or reacting in their own way to different stimuli but it is the "Autism talking". I also appreciate the realism of the argument. So often, when I might argue with somebody, I am not listening to what they are saying or listen to the validity of their points, but I rush to say my own points are just reinforce my own pre-determined judgements. Like Clark and Beouf here, many times it isn't until half-way through the argument that I learn to not just hear what they are saying but actually listen Finally, I love how layered the characters are. Sometimes, we convince ourselves that we HATE somebody and that we want to destroy somebody, when in reality, we love them so much and when we get hurt, we get those BIG feelings, and we cant quite compute what is happening. In many ways, all of us adults are just toddlers unable to handle our emotions. We have to pretend to be adults in this big scary world when all we want is a hug from the people we love. You knocked this out of the park, great job as always, but this time, I actually took something away from this that I can apply to my own life. True master at work! But just to make sure your ego doesnt get to big; go fuck yourself! 😂
