Another important role that sex workers are the main folks fulfilling these days is to offer physical touch of any kind to people who don’t have other ways to access that pretty fundamental (for many humans) emotional need. There are many, many people out there, especially in societies where being physically close is not encouraged for men, who are deeply lonely and isolated, especially older people or people living somewhere they can’t fit into. It has a huge negative impact on most people’s mental health to go without physical touch for extended periods of time, and yet if you have no family or very close friends or a community supporting you, that’s likely your reality, especially as a man. Hiring a sex worker, possibly just to cuddle and talk to, can be lifesaving for people in that position.
