Love your videos! I’m also an ally :) Will and Grace was a big one we watched when I was a younger teenager. You all are younger than me, so probably were too young for this, but Queer as Folk was another one. When you talked about how before Heartstopper, kids would be watching R rated gay shows in secret, queer as folk came immediately to mind. It was groundbreaking at the time, but watching it more recently it’s kind of cringe. Keep up the great work!

Reem

Ohhh I reckon you’d like the food content that Beryl Shereshewsky puts out. She creates themes around ingredients, how food brings people together and creates a story and food from around the world.

Reem

Ooooh please review Dr Who if you can. Especially when Ncuti Gatwa comes on ❤️.

Marion Riederer

Great video, guys! I would like to know if you have watched the movie „My Policeman“ with Harry Styles yet? I highly recommend it.

Noel Arce

Y'all are my queer representation. I'm 58 (Chicago), queer veteran an you guys always have great content an a laid back flow to your channel. Great job.

Sanna-Mari

Thanks for a great extra! For niche, yet approachable queer show is the new Swedish Netflix miniseries Tore. Such a emotional and heartfelt ride with an untypical queer representation.

Ali Laura

Loved this! Great answers 😀 Alex as you mentioned food YouTube channels - have you watched Sorted Food? Their pass-it-on series is so funny. They each get 10 minutes in the kitchen to make the next step of the dish, without knowing what the person before has done. Would watch a baking live-stream, maybe you could do a pass-it-on version with Josh 😆

Sarah Vallance (Accessible Yoga with Sarah)

Loved this, thank you for this Q & Slay!! 1. Yes please to a baking live stream!! 100% would watch! 2. Loved the shout out for Nigel Owens - a great role model in sports and so well respected. His “I’m straighter than that!” response to an off centre line out throw made me laugh so hard!

Graham & Ruth May

Agreed! 😍

I am sure Omar is as nice as he comes across - but also - that man is so beautiful - in every sense of the word 🔥🔥

IAmom

Aw.. babies 🥰

Sara Nissen

Documentaries could be interesting too, and now you got me thinking in that direction too, I think it could be interesting to see them react to the Danish animated documentary Flee/Flugt.

Stephen Bertram

One question came up while watching Q and Slay: how has doing ASWT changed how you sit in your own skin.

Laura Ibarra

As always, super entertaining! You are my favorite YouTube channel and finding your channel led me down this rabbit hole of YouTube LOL I used to only watch YouTube when I needed help with figuring out how to do something. Not sure how the algorithm brought me to you but I am forever grateful. Been following you since your first Heartstopper reaction and have been immensely proud to see the growth of your channel. So well deserved!!

Charlzz

There are two areas I think you should consider. First, documentaries. I want to recommend to all who read the comment section to go and watch a new Hulu documentary called NEVER LET HIM GO (this seems like a riff on the British author Kazuo Ishiguro's book called NEVER LET ME GO, but completely unrelated). NEVER LET HIM GO starts off as a small story of a gay American living in Australia, and goes in such unexpected directions that eventually grows to national impact. It is also about the devotion of his straight brother to find out the truth. It's a three part series where the story spans decades. It's a challenging watch, but very insightful. It's a "story worth watching". Second, interviews. When I binge-watched Heartstopper Season 1 earlier this year (nearly a year after it came out), I watched interviews and the minor characters (Tobey Donovan who plays Isaac and Cormac Hyde-Corrin who plays Harry and Kizzy Edgell who plays Darcy) did hour long interviews with relatively people from unknown YouTube channels. I think ASWT worth telling could snag a few such interviews. These interviews often tell a different side to the roles they play. For example, I don't know Cormac's orientation, but he's so unexpectedly different from Harry. Very thoughtful. In particular, Cormac has ADHD and wants to make his own movies. It's interesting how actors have to take roles that aren't as nuanced like Harry (a bit two-dimensional) to further their careers. So, queer-related documentaries (NEVER LET HIM GO) and interviews with shows you've reviewed (I think the actor's strike has affected British actors less).

Brandon Sanderson is amaaaazing!!

There is a famous American playwright, Neil Simon, who wrote a play called Biloxi Blues. This was also made into a movie starring Matthew Broderick directed by Mike Nichols who also directed The Birdcage. So, Biloxi is in movies, Alex!

David

A great video. The Inheritance is probably my favourite thing I've ever seen on stage or screen, loved it, sobbed like a baby! I think for me my hope for future LBGTQ+ representation is that it's not longer seen as a genre, it's just there in most stories that it never needs to be pointed out as containing representation.

Literally Natalie

You guys referencing Brad?? Oh this is my DREAM! You guys and Brad are my FAVORITE YOUTUBE CHANNELS!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘😍😍😍😍😍

Dan Tackett

Getting to know you better was just lovely. I discovered your Channel while watching YouTube reviews of Love Victor. I loved your banter, balanced with the depth of your insights into representation. As an early subscriber from the US, I’ve cheered your growth and enjoyed many smiles with you. Cheers for many more years!

Diane Furlong

I totally agree! Well said.

Pip

Interesting watch. I think Alex should call in some favours from his TV contacts so that ASWT can get interviewing some of the people involved in the shows they review such as Messrs Tovey, Groff, Galitzine etc. ASWT seems to be growing so quickly that it cannot be that far off. This isn't really relevant to the Q & Slay is it? 🙂

YOU GUYS ARE INCREDIBLE! i guess you already know this - but not just anyone could have run with the idea josh had and amde it work. you both are so incredibly funny, wise and just an overall joy to watch. i've learnt so much from the commentary you've given in different shows and about different characters. you are unique and you are what makes "a story worth telling" the amazing success that it is. i hope that you continue to be able to achieve more of your goals with the channel and the idea and that more people find you on patreon and support you. also, omar rudberg is incredible and out of everyone i'd love to meet him. he's so incredibly gifted and creative - still blows my mind that "young royals" was his first acting role. keep up the incredible and important work! thank YOU! nigel owens! that's incredible! i was born in new zealand, but live in australia so i'm an all blacks fan (kinda by birth) but it always amazed me how brilliant he was. he was himself, everyone knew it and i never heard anyone say a bad thing about him - because he is a great communicator and a great referee. it's inspirational in a male-dominated sport that he was so confident about being himself. as we all know, usually in some sports more than others, there's a tendency for men not to disclose their sexuality because of being ostracised in the locker room, by fans, by opponents etc. i'm so glad to hear you say that and what an awesome role model. i really miss that he no longer referees international games either because he had a firm, calming presence and was so good at what he did. sorry for ranting! wait! is brad "brad evans?" i was watching his GoT vids recently haha.

Graham & Ruth May

Thanks for a very entertaining Q and Slay. This was a perfect illustration of why I just adore watching you guys. Funny, thoughtful, great friendship….it always works for me! A big thank you for including my question and Josh, I share your appreciation of Omar Rudberg’s (Simon from Young Royals) beauty. We have excellent taste. ❤️👑❤️

This was a great deal of fun. In terms of having a form of representation that inspired someone to come out, I indeed had one of those moments. I was watching "The Amazing Race" with mum, and one of the teams consisted of a mother and her son, Luke and Margie. During one episode, Luke and Margie were discussing his sexuality. At that moment, I said to my mum, "Mum, I'm like Luke," to which she replied, "I know." It was a bit of a shock, but looking back, I think she probably knew about my sexuality since I got caught shoplifting some gay magazines from a news agent when I was 16, and she had to pick me up from the police station 😅. I'm not sure if they discussed the specifics of what I was attempting to take or just the act itself.

The Tommo Way

OMG I cant believe Alex said he wants to come to Brasil. You are more than invited Alex

IAmom

Heeeeeey - basic questions - How old are you guys? 😀

Nina

I’ve noticed that both of you have shirts with the little rainbow ears logo. Love them! Would you be willing share the brand or company? Also, how is the merch coming?

Louise Poole 🍂

I'm a big Doctor Who fan so "you'd be a fucking ood" had me WAILING 😂 you're both absolute gems ❤️

Naava

Fun video, thank you again. It's so much fun to watch anything with you! Machu picchu can be reached with a train and a bus. :D

Love this video! So fun to learn more about you two gems. Proud to be a Patreon supporter of your important work. Hello from Oregon. ❤️

As a straight person (and older so a completely different tv representation generation) I concur. Also agree that the two of you are absolutely adorable and make me laugh with your banter and silliness.

Jennifer Carrigg

Yay! Thank you so much! 😎❤️🏳️‍🌈 Congrats on 30k!

He's a data analyst x

Diane Furlong

I loved this so much! Just one question I couldn’t understand what Josh was saying about his day job?! Maybe I’ll wait for the YouTube version and perhaps closed captions will be an option. Thanks so much for sharing parts of your lives with us.

Sara Nissen

Well said. (Ally myself too.)

Suze

I’m very glad to hear that I am, in fact, your favourite patron ❤️

Andrea Brown

Loved this! I'm trying to switch careers and get into data analysis. Loved finding out that's what Josh does! Do you spend a lot of time analyzing the data from your videos and different social media platforms?

Silme Elen

I am a woman and I am straight. "I am an ally" like Imogen ;) I must say that watching creators from the LGBTQIA+ community on YouTube has changed my perspective on many things. Even though I know what people from the LGBTQIA+ community struggle with, I think I've never really had the opportunity to learn about it all from their perspective. For example, watching the reaction to Heartstopper kind of opened my eyes and allowed me to look at this series from a completely different perspective and understand how much impact it has on people's lives and how important it is. And I am grateful for sharing your thoughts, experiences and opinions. I think this is important not only to other people from the LGBTQIA+ community but also to straight people. I think we need to learn more about each other so that we can better understand each other and our points of view. I love you guys and thank you for being here :)

Carrie Lindley

I've learned so much from watching you guys, and it's helped me be a better parent and human. And, added bonus, I've laughed about a thousand times along the way. Genuinely, just a huge thank you!

Sara Nissen

I love this Q&Slay! Great to know a bit more about you two and fun as always. If I were stuck in a tvshow/series for a month, it sure wouldn't be Squid Game, I don't think I'd last long 😆 Maybe more like Scooby Doo; One of my favorite cartoon Series, (my other favorite cartoon is Courage the Cowardly Dog, but I don't know if I'd like being stuck in the middle of nowhere 😆) or maybe one of my favorite Danish Tv series Seaside Hotel( a drama/comedy series that starts in the late 1920s and will end in 1946 next year, and there is a queer couple; a count who for quite some time struggles with accepting/coming to terms with his sexuality and a guy Who draws advertisements but in later seasons becomes the chef at the small hotel.) I love The great british bakeoff, we have a danish version too, but I don't bake that much myself and might struggle with the time limit. 😆 Like Josh I love to read too. I love to read a lot of different genres, but my two favorite writers are Stephen King and Jan Guillou.

Ann-Marie Still

Just got to finish RW&RB rewatch and then I'm on this 🩷💜💙

Also beautiful here in the Midwest of the US with an actually quite warm temp of 65°F (18c)with it quickly dropping to 32°F (0c) by tonight. I am also enjoying some coffee on my patio.

Janne Andersen

Thank you for this. I always smile and laugh through your videos - so you do bring joy to us 🥰. My earliest memories of queer content in the 90s must be The adventures of Priscilla - Queen of the desert, My Own Private Idaho and the musical Rent. I would love it, if you would react to one of them🏳️‍🌈

Erin Halloran

I don’t think you understand just how much I would love a baking stream!

Dominique Berton

Thank you for this video. I had an extremely stressful day today and this was a great mix of getting to know you better and having 30 minutes of tapping into something more positive than what's going on in my own life at the moment. Keep up the good work.x

Sam S

Dobble as a drinking game. Just saying…

Ingrid Machado Pena

I think it was Lisa from YR who mention something on Twitter about your reaction to the show... Wasn't it? Dennis, help me out here!

Jacqui Chesterton

Never thought we'd see the tables turned and Alex telling Josh "never say that again" 😂. Miriam Margolyes IS such an icon. Love her. And OF COURSE you bring SO MUCH JOY into our lives!! More than that, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has used your commentary to help figure themselves out. Ahhh loved it. You guys are the loveliest.

L Archibald

Always fun to watch your content! Woke up to it and I’m reminded of all of the clips of your reactions that I have saved in my phone. ❤️

L Archibald

Just had to giggle when you said it.

It's a lovely Autumn morning. The doors and windows have been flung open. The temperature is rising to a pleasingly warm 27 degrees (81f). I've got my coffee, and now I'm going to watch this! Things couldn't be better!

Diane Furlong

Oh this should be fun. I’ll definitely watch when I get home from a doctor’s appointment. Thanks Alex and Josh
