I actually wasn't surprised, but knew he would go home. He'd already been feeling guilty about leaving his family, and hearing he was assumed dead really hit him.

i think you missed Badminton saying that Stede "defiles beautiful things" and him agreeing. he's unsettled because he feels like he's ruined Blackbeard and his family and he doesn't deserve to be happy. that's where the going home came from.

not sure if you noticed, but the two officers who stood up to Badminton were in fact the two hostages from earlier in the season 😂😂 Stede really made an impression on them

Such a lovely scene of them telling one another how happy the other makes them, followed by such a sweet and tender kiss. Of course it was all going to turn to shit after that! Hopefully the next episode will steer us back on the right course.....see what I did there?? Boat reference. I sure am witty!

Could that last scene be Stede dreaming? Ed did tell him to get some sleep/rest and he said that he would leave first. Then Stede was supposed to follow him.
