Hi Dave! Off topic. But you and Patrick will eventually review Baby Reindeer right??? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

A brief anecdote, and then an observation. First: I was a longtime listener of The Filmcast before I became a Patron on here. Why did it take me so long to become a Filmcast subscriber and Chenhead? Well, partly it was my financial situation over time (and I truly appreciate the kind message Dave gives to those who are unable to afford being a paid subscriber). Another part was gradually delineating my tastes in film & TV-related podcasts (and trust me: several that I tried out for a while are now long removed from my feed). But what ultimately won me over was the combination of After Dark eps and advert-free episodes. I think it would be interesting to do a marketing survey of some kind of your patrons about why and how they found the podcast in the first place, and what prompted them to convert to becoming a paid subscriber? Also: is it possible to measure how social media recs gain you followers? I certainly do my best to promote your work in my relatively timy and humble corner of the internet. Now, an observation for Dave (offered FWIW): I notice you tend to apologize fairly often, and for things that are not worthy of apologizing for. Example just from today, apologizing for getting into too much detail about the marketing/advertising side of podcasting: dude, I *LOVE* the “sausage-making” stuff, it’s one of the reasons I’m a patron! Or in past episodes: “Sorry this is going to be very loose and unstructured today, I’m sorry it may be a little ‘rough’ or unpolished…” NO NEED for this apology, Dave! In fact, you could frame it as: “Well friends we have a very special, impromptu, totally improvisational edition of the pod today…how exciting to be working without a net today, and I know you’ll enjoy this!” Long comment here, but sent with much respect and gratitude! -CDMatthew in Boston
