The 1st and 2nd OVA specials might not be essential to watch but it's just a fun romp that gives the characters some interactions and fun trivia about military-related stuff, and the Monty Python homage.

Girls und Panzer is 12 episodes not 13. There are 2 recap episodes: Ep. 5.5 and 10.5 that is not just a recap but introduction to the characters and a brief info about Senshado rules, etc. There's also 6 short ova specials that happened within the series. There's OVA 7 also known as the Anzio OVA. After that there's GuP Der Film and the Der Film OVA called Alice War. Then the on-going GuP Das Finale, a planned 6-part movie series that currently has 2 episodes out.

The other ova- 5.5 and ova 1 and 2 are not really big deals- watch em after the show if you want but they are like- meet the crew, and swimsuit and camping and beach ep fodder with low animation efforts, and lots of still pans etc.. Then theres all the newer stuff like the 1st movie and the new stuff thats not even all out yet.. dunno if you'll want to watch that later..

^Na I disagree - I'd watch Anzio OVA AFTER 13- why mess about avoiding its spoiler, and watching it in a NONE broadcast order that WE all didn't see it in? It stands well enough on its own and tho it wouldnt matter too much if you watch it after 7 and avoid the after credits- why bother? Also, since it WAS made after the series, it has a lot more action and CG than it really would have got as a mid series episode- which may detract from the following episodes as seeming not as good in that way.

Nice, very glad you like the series :) To answer some of your questions without spoilers : - The bandaged bears plushies are not really explained in the main series, it's mostly touched upon in the first movie (GuP girl Der film). - Related to your comment on the first episode, the OVAs are indeed non mandatory, except the Anzio one which happens between episode 7 and 8. It's basicaly episode 7.5, you should totaly watch it in that order and just avoid the post credit scene. - The four girls in the Stug are the history club, hence all those random historical references

Basically you can think of the tanks as main characters since they get the most screen time minus our girls obviously i find it easier to track the crews in them that way

Great reaction as always- glad you find it fun :) p.s you mentioned in ep 1 seeing some memes of it before- my fav is the clip from 2:35 - if you google 'responsibility me gif' in goggle images, its on the top line - love that clip :) And yup it has tons of characters- hence a lot of them get almost zero screen-time or development- its just an unavoidable consequence of Senshado.. If this was Mahjong, you could have just 5 people for each schools team.. here you need a 'team' of tanks- and tanks just need quite a few operators each!
