Question! What do you think of the shard of Devotion focusing on Rue? Also, how do you think the Hans Christian Anderson tale connects to the episode?

There is also a Hans Christian Anderson Fairytale called The Red Shoes about a girl who is forced to dance as penance for her vanity (signified by wearing fancy red shoes to church). The girl tries to repent, even going so far as to cut off her feet, but is only forgiven when she prays to God, whereupon she dies and is admitted to heaven, apparently cleansed of her sin.

The red ballet shoes also showed up in Utena both the tv version and the movie, and it was in the juri and shiori arc if I remember correctly. I think here it serves the same purpose to portray Rue's love as something dedicated but can also restrain her (and the one she loves). It is interesting to note that Mythos' dedication is drawing Rue here as well , but that can also be Malen's own crush on Rue XD
