I also think that it's supposed to juxtapose the difference between focusing on happy moments and focusing on the negative. I don't think they did as good as job on this. But the main point seems to be that Rio has been focusing on the negative events in her life. Like her sisters death. When she should be focusing on the good times she had with her sister and the good she did. or when she talks about the town being a dead end. But it wasn't it was just a point on her path so she shouldn't look at running into a dead end as a negative but as just another adventure waiting to happen sort of thing. While the old woman focused on the good times she had and thus lived a happier life. I don't personally agree with the sentiment that you should just live your life in delusion. But I do think that there is an in between point.

I enjoyed this episode. Perhaps it resonated more with me because I'm a bastard child who's father left when he found out I existed. So I understand Rio's frustration and feelings. But that may just be me putting my own experiences in to fill in the gap.
