I think it's kind of a genius move to have ginko not being able to stay in one place for long, not only for his own story, but also to create a lot of tension and stakes. He leaves, and we don't get to know the resolution right away. And when we do it might be a long time after, and nothing can be done now. The show really makes us care about every character of the week!
The ending of episode 16 immediately reminded me of Ginko's backstory. You forget something, you forget the fact that you forgot them, but something remains unforgotten and you can't tell why.
