Phew! I'm mostly here for the Johnlock, and I need another fandom like I need a hole in the head, but fuuuuuuuuu! If this isn't about the hottest thing I've ever seen. Read a couple of the Hannibal books, never actually watched the show for fear that the horror might be a scosh too much, but I may have to change my mind. And FWIW, I agree with what folks have said about consent checks, etc. Somehow you've woven togther a fraught edge of dubcon with enthusiastic consent. Sorcery!!!!

Haha I'm in the same country-kid boat so things get weird for me too; definitely know more about some of this stuff than I'll ever need to XD It's tough because I really like it when people do their research in general and don't just copy from other fics, but with the ABO stuff things get so weird; when I was drawing this I had to research how canine knotting actually works on a physiological level and squicked myself out haahh...

Agree about Hannibal licking etc. not strictly coming across as foreplay. Also, (with ABO borrowing so much from canine and animal behaviour/sex) if anyone ever saw animals in heat or rut getting it on in real life (so not the cut version in docs :P) the male actually does lick the female's genitals. Especially dogs, horses etc... It's a scenting thing - but might also be nature's way to ensure there's lubrication. -- *Ex country kid here, not a bestiality perv* 😂

Re: your note - I actually think it makes total sense for Hannibal to do this even in the context of heat. The licking, to me, comes across more like claiming than foreplay (since, from a single panel, you don't necessarily get the impression that it went on for very long). And, in the same way, Hannibal asking, "Are you ready for me?" doesn't quite read as a consent check (since he did just literally tackle Will), but to me, just as Hannibal wanting to hear Will say that he wants him - like a dominance thing (although, to be clear, I don't see this situation as non-con, either, which is nice).
