This week we're starting the new NSFW level omegaverse hannigram comic I promised; it will have two parts with a break between for a different comic :)) I'm uploading extra pages this week to give you guys more of a taste of it before the month rolls over, so next month I might have to skip a week; I'll keep you guys updated~

Synopsis
Basically, this story takes place in the latter half of season 2, Will's "seduction" of Hannibal, canonically figurative, but here, literal. It will follow most canon events from that season, and it's gonna have a bad end. However, I've already written and thumbnailed a follow up comic which will borrow from the second half of season 3, and leave things in a less ambiguous place. Murder husbands will be a thing by the end of it. I don't like bad endings~

So, I've been debating internally how much or little info I should write up about this comic before you start reading. If you haven't really heard of or read any omegaverse before, this doesn't do a great job of setting it up, so you might be a little lost, and if you have read it before, this violates a bunch of the rules anyway, so, you might be a little lost. Heh. So, uh, I wrote a lot. But you don't have to read it all.
Below, I've broken things into 3 sections: a content warning list, a basic omegaverse primer, and a more personal omegaverse primer particular to this comic. If you don't want spoilers, are familiar with ABO, and aren't easily triggered, feel free to skip all of it. If you want to go in fully prepared, then I'll try to condense all this info as much as possible.

2) Omegaverse general primer
Okay. The first thing you should know is that omegaverse is problematic. Super problematic.
First, there is the issue of the alpha knot, which is borrowed from canid anatomy (because the trope evolved from werewolf pack dynamics) and animalistic dicks squick some people out. Then there is the whole heat issue, which is essentially dubcon/noncon, in which the person is (or both persons are) in a state where they literally can't say no to sex. Some people also argue that ABO "heterosexualizes" formerly homosexual relationships, by adding additional genders that make it okay or encouraged for two men or two women to be together. Finally there are a whole load of societal issues with people being essentially owned by other people. There are fics where the problematic aspects of these issues are removed, but those fics are fairly uncommon. Personally, I'm a fan of these uncommon fics, but I'll get into that in the next section.
The very very basics that you need to know are that there are additional genders (alpha, beta, omega) to the main male/female genders; you can be female/alpha, female/omega, male omega, etc. Omegas are pretty much biologically designed to be bottoms, while alphas are generally tops; also, male omegas are generally capable of getting pregnant, and female alphas are generally capable of impregnating. Also, in almost all universes, omegas experience heats, which last anywhere from a few hours to a couple weeks, where they feel a powerful urge to have sex (in male omegas, to be the recipient in anal sex). Bonding is also usually a thing, where two people can biologically imprint on each other; this imprinting is usually permanent or difficult to break.
There are also a load of world building and societal factors that come along with it; a lot of omegaverse fics present omegas as rare and desirable, and having a lower status than other people, to the point where many omegas in fics are hiding their second gender with illegal drugs in order to escape being bred and owned by an alpha and forced to give up everything just to bear children the rest of their lives. In many fics, the world is less advanced, with society embracing these archaic ideas about gender. Other fics, more rarely, present a more free world similar to ours today, but with old prejudices and stereotypes still present.

Note, everyone has a bit of their own opinion on the standards of omegaverse, so some of these contain content I don't really agree with. 3) Omegaverse personal primer
So basically, about half of that problematic stuff I mentioned earlier, I'm not a fan of. I'm not a fan of reading about societies where people are owned, unless there's a real bloody revolution about halfway through. I'm not a fan of noncon (and on this page, I won't be posting dubcon either). I'm not a fan of fics where the author dangles the possibility of a character being trapped in a bond with or impregnated by the "wrong" person as a dramatic device. And I'm not a fan of following a template. The moment I read "rare unbonded omega", the most common protagonist in omegaverse fics regardless of fandom, in any fic I'm already backing out. In my opinion, too many omegaverse stories follow the same exact formula and don't challenge the trope in the same way they did in the very early days when it was first becoming popular. People found what they liked and stuck with it. I like some of these ideas, but I don't like reading the same story over and over.
So, here is a rundown on some of the differences present in the verse of this comic; there are a lot of other things that I like to see in ABO fics and would add if I could, but they don't really come up in this story, so I'll leave them off this list:
-society pretty much matches the show canon; all genders are legally considered equal, although there are still many prejudices/stereotypes that people struggle with
-hormone/pheromone suppressants and birth control are readily available and even required for some professions
-humans regard their base ABO instincts as remnants of a more primitive time; people who revel in them are considered deviant or even mentally ill
-omegas experience heat bi-yearly, and while powerful, they don't lose coherence and can still make choices
-omegan heat pheromones induce alphas into rut, putting them on equal levels of need; they are a little less level headed but still reasonably capable of choice
-members of any gender can bond during intercourse by biting glands in their partner's neck, which means they will only react sexually to their partner
-bonding is difficult to break and broken bonds have long reaching consequences, so it's not particularly common, and should be considered seriously over a long period of time (most people, even happily married couples, never bond at all)
-anatomically, male alphas have knots, and male omegas have an internal reproductive system and no testicles

That's all for now! Btw, if you wanna discuss any of this stuff further, I'm up for it! I find a lot of the aspects of omegaverse pretty interesting in a more academic way, even the stuff I personally dislike; it's interesting how something about this verse appeals so greatly to so many people, to the point where it has become its own trope with thousands of fics in hundreds of fandoms. If you super disagree with me on some of these points then feel free to add that too!

OK well, I've signed up for this comic (now that I'm back at work), and I'm so excited to finally read it! But then also pretty stoked to discover one of my fics in your above bookmarks, I'm glad you like it! 💖
I definitely understand the issues a lot of people have with the more problematic parts of omegaverse, because a lot of the most basic content is inherently triggering to people, myself included in certain situations. But honestly, those are my favorite parts of the trope, and not because it's wicked hot (although it definitely is). I love seeing the way different characters react to various stresses; it's the biggest reason why I read fanfic, honestly, and the stresses put on characters in omegaverse, in any incarnation of the trope, are absolutely fascinating to me. For example, how would Sherlock handle being born omega? Would he take medication to hide his secondary gender and pretend to be a beta or alpha in order to slip through society easier, or would he unforgivingly force people to accept his gender one way or another? The character driven plots in these stories are so often absolutely fascinating for me, and I really look forward to reading your interpretation of the trope. Keep up the great work!

I agree, the fact that the rules are so flexible is very appealing to me hehe. It's part of the reason it unsettles me when someone take omegaverse and uses it in an actual publication or original story (I saw it recently in a manga, and heard it was used in some ebooks as well); I'm mortified that somehow one of those stories will become popular enough that it will define the canon for omegaverse and suddenly other versions of it will become less common and less accepted. You know how fans get when you don't write something "correctly" haha... *thinks about that whole toplock fiasco, ugh* Even though some versions of omegaverse have stopped appealing to me personally, I love that people are still able to try all these different things :)) I just hope it keeps growing and changing~
Also, just wanted to add that I really love your fan comics and have absolute faith this one will be awesome as well! ( I only just noticed that I get the same giddy feeling with every new story and update as I do with any loved fics) ❤️
I'm so EXCITED!!! In the beginning I didn't really like ABO fics either, but being in fandoms for so long, after reading a few decent ones they sort of grew on me. Lol I wouldn't say it's my favourite trope but despite being problematic, I have to admit it IS some of those aspects as well that appeal to me too. (Not mpreg tho, I think it will be something that forever squicks me out. XD ) I did wonder about what it is about ABO verse that appeals to so many people as well. I think it might be the strong instincts, being driven by instincts you have to fight to suppress (or not :P ) and the whole mate and bond mate thing... As we humans are already distanced from primal instincts - in a way. We don't feel them as strongly, but there is still something so appealing about the thought and concept, especially in terms of a 'partner' and sex. Or at least, for me this is definitely one of the strongest appeals. I see mpreg is generally liked a lot too, in ABO context, as well as feminisation... So I always felt that (a big part of) the people who really love ABO might like it as a projection of baser 'feminine' instincts and roles. (Even society enforced ones) Personally these types of ABOs completely squick me out (I'm really not a domestic housewife type lol) but I do see the appeal, especially in terms of some baser wishes of safety and family. Wow, sorry for the long comment! I could discuss such stuff for hours. 👀💦

I like the primer and your personal preference for omega verse. I've written two omegaverse stories, and I think that the most exciting part of the troupe is the world building. Omega verse is completely made up, so there is no "set" way to write it. I love seeing everyones different take on the troupe, I think a lot of them are really fascinating. I've read ones where omegas are rare and coveted, ones where everyone is equal, and ones where the alphas are considered primal and second class citizens. I've even seen some interesting ones were betas are majority and both alphas and omegas are considered second class due to their 'primal' instincts. I really look forwards to seeing your take on this and, of course, your lovely artwork.

Wow, I appreciate your breakdown of Omegaverse. I mean, I know exactly what it is...hate to admit it, but I do very much enjoy it despite it's problems (and it is rather problematic) so I'm glad you pointed that out. Also: I'm very excited for the angst, but the promise of an eventual good ending is what's going to keep me reading. I did say I liked angst...but not angsty ending all the time. In any case: AAAAAAAAHHHH! I'm so fucking excited to read this!!!!! Woooo!!!!

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of mpreg or kidfic, so, this might go in a way that you're not gonna be happy with ;w; I'm hoping that the 2nd part will help a bit but it's not going to be in a happy family way, but in their own murder husband way. As for characteristics, I agree that I could see both of them going either way; I'm doing O!Will and A!Hannibal for this story because I love the concept of the seduction, and I was inspired by some really good gifsets on tumblr hehe, but I also love O!Hannibal because generally in these verses people don't expect omegas to be capable and I love how it makes him extra fuckin scary :)) I also really dig the idea of O!Will/O!Hannibal but I haven't really seen any fic for it; I think omega murder husbands would be really interesting (and kinda hot tbh haha) (edited because patreon cut off half my reply lol)

I love omegaverse! I am collecting them on archive of our own and will definitely check out the ones you recommended. I am sad that there is a bad ending in the 2nd part, especially with the miscarriage of their child! but I am happy there is a happy ending, will there be more children? or will the trauma have caused Will to be barren? I found a story like that where Hannibal sliced his stomach causing the death of their child (unbeknownst to Hannibal) and later was able to get pregnant again. I wonder on your opinion though, I have read many omegaverses with Will as an Alpha and Hannibal as an Omega and then the opposite. I am not sure which I like better; I like them both with Will as either an Alpha or Omega and same with Hannibal but who do you think is more Omega or Alpha? I think Hannibal has all the characteristics of an Omega because of his cooking, cleaning (OCD), and need to entertain and 'take care of people' while I can see Will as an Alpha because of his need to protect, provide, and he has a hidden strength that even Hannibal wants. If you have any more stories to recommend please dont hesitate to send me some! I love Hannigram and I am collecting alot of fanfics!
