🕑 Added 2022-09-30 18:10:00 +0000 UTCI wanted to share this scene because I think it's one of the scenes I'm personally the most happy with, maybe tied with the Mason scene. I think sometimes my art from sketch to final goes a bit rigid, but I really liked the feeling of these final pages. It probably helped that it was leading into the smut scene~
You can also tell if you compare these to the first set I shared, that I'm focused more on capturing the character expression in the thumb rather than just the position; I had a lot of pages to figure out how I wanted to portray Will and Hannibal emotionally so I felt like I understood better what they're feeling. I have to say though, Hannibal still looks weird in a lot of these; I kinda like thumbnail Hannibal better in some of them XD
Something interesting to note is in this scene, after thumbnails were complete, I actually added dialogue and resulted in the question mark page. I realized Hannibal never actually said sorry for insulting Will for not kissing him, and it kinda sucked; I was fine with this in early drafts because Hannibal is manipulative, this whole sex scene is manipulative, and it felt in character that he wouldn't bother apologizing for it. But I really didn't want anyone to end up hating Hannibal too much for what he does to Will here, and when he apologizes at the end, I wanted Will to believe that he really is sorry. I made Hannibal's expressions more open emotionally in the majority of this story, mainly because he's trying to seduce Will the whole time and structured his whole persona on it, but by the end it kind of breaks him because he realizes he's so used to showing himself to Will that he can't hide even when he tries.
Oh yeah one other funny thing is on page 11 I was originally going to try drawing creepy faced Will but it was just so funny looking it kinda ruined the scene XD Turned his face into a book~

He definitely started out manipulative but I think by the time he tries to kiss Will he's already having genuine reactions (it's why he got so distant when Will rejected him :)) ) Thank you!

Honestly Hannibal always feels so fey in this comic that I didn’t ever begrudge him his manipulative nature. I loved his human veil here and how open his face was with will, manipulative with his own emotions for will
This artistic process is so interesting. You put a lot of fervor into that kiss :p That's why it's so good! I wondered when I read it the first time if Hannibal was honest in his apology. It was difficult sometimes, before he reveals himself to Will, to separate the manipulation from the honesty. Good to have that little clarification 😊
