I re-read my reply and realized it sounded like I was calling the name Ting weird. I didn't mean it that way. What I was really talking about the Hollywood celebrities that give their kids crazy names like Moon Unit, Inspektor Pilot, and others of that ilk. When your parents are rich. They can send you to private schools with other kids with weird names. However, if your parents aren't rich and you are given a goofy name, you might be the victim of much bullying. You're lucky if you have a name that can be shortened into something that's not out of the ordinary.

I think there might be same misunderstandings in this. If somebody asked Henry's mom in English "What is this, Ting?" would they sound like they making fun of her? I think this is why we should always say the person's name first. As in "Ting, what is this?" Also, why we shouldn't name our children weird names as some kind of joke or political statement.
