Chapter 844 : Another Student?
🕑 Added 2025-01-07 18:55:13 +0000 UTCA few hours after Sun rose, Hiruzen strolled into the Hokage Building. Unlike the previous times, he was completely relaxed. He thought, ‘It's been so long since I didn't have many responsibilities. I got a short respite when Minato succeeded me. It's a shame that it ended so quickly…’
Even though he was far weaker and in tremendous pain, not having the pressure of what came with the seat relaxed Hiruzen. He walked into his old office calmly. Looking at his student buried in paperwork brought back some of his memories. Luckily, he could afford to smile this time since he didn't have to do them.
His peaceful smile annoyed Tsunade. She thought, ‘He sure is enjoying life after burying me in paperwork!’
He said, “You seem to be recovering well, Sensei. Are you missing your old job?”
Realizing his thoughts were being read, he coughed and said, “I'm just happy to see you in this chair. Even though it's much later than I hoped, I'm glad it happened.”
As he spoke, Hiruzen thought, ‘The injuries and retirement have affected my mental state. I am too relaxed, making it far easier to read me. I need to work on this before working on my chakra control.’
Needless to say, his words didn't fool Tsunade. Unlike others, she knew Hiruzen too well. She turned her attention to a file in front of her and said, “You're losing your game, Sensei. Anyway, I need your help with this. It's so messed up that I don't have any idea of how to approach him…”
Hiruzen was surprised. He walked forward and sat on the chair Shizune placed opposite Tsunade. He picked up the file and muttered, “Uchiha Sasuke? Why was he admitted?”
Tsunade answered, “Yoshi found his mental state off and forced him to be admitted. His suspicions were correct. This kid is a complete mess. Then again, it ain't surprising…”
Hiruzen became serious. Considering how Itachi had sacrificed, he couldn't let his brother suffer. However, he was confused and wondered, ‘That's strange. Wasn't he doing well? He also picked up Kakashi's Chidori and improved his Taijutsu drastically… Could it be Orochimaru's curse seal?’
He looked at Tsunade and asked, “What do you mean it isn't surprising? Is the seal out of control?”
Tsunade asked in surprise, “You don't know?”
She immediately realized, ‘That's right. Fujin never ran into Itachi and hence never mentioned him. Since Sensei is still recovering, others haven't burdened him with the messier stuff…’
Hiruzen raised an eyebrow and asked, “What happened?”
Tsunade informed him about Itachi and Kisame's visit to the village and their encounter with Naruto, Sasuke and Jiraiya. Hiruzen's expression became even more serious. Placing his elbows on the desk and resting his chin on his palms, Hiruzen entered into a deep thought.
He analyzed, ‘Itachi visited… Hmm, he must be warning Danzo and others from making a move on Sasuke since my status was unknown. However, why would he harm Sasuke to such an extent? He should know that his actions would only push Sasuke to do something drastic like accepting the darkness and seeking Orochimar…’
His eyes widened as it suddenly clicked in his mind, ‘Wait, that's it… He's pushing Sasuke to become faster quickly. This means…’
Tsunade noticed his reaction and asked, “Did you figure out something, Sensei?”
Hiruzen sighed, “No, it's just a pity to see Sasuke suffer so much. Let me read Yoshi's report first.”
In order to not make Tsunade suspicious, he opened the file and read while his thoughts were in a different place. Hiruzen sighed internally as he realized, ‘Itachi’s illness must be worse than what he reported. If he doesn't have a long time to live, his actions would make some sense, though I still don't agree with it.
In a way, this is not only a message for Sasuke, but also to me. He increased Sasuke's thirst for strength and hopes I satisfy it so that Sasuke can avenge the Uchiha clan before Itachi succumbs to his illness.
If I can't, he wants Sasuke to pursue Orochimaru's help. Of course, it'll be very risky, but Orochimaru must have been forced to change his body by now. Itachi must believe that Sasuke would have the strength to kill Orochimaru by the time he can change his body again…’
While Hiruzen understood Itachi's confidence in his younger brother, it didn't change how risky the whole thing was. Hiruzen's current state was due to none other than Orochimaru. Unlike Itachi, he had no confidence in Sasuke killing Orochimaru. Naturally, he preferred to let Sasuke get stronger in Konoha's safe environment.
He thought, ‘I can only ask Kakashi to quicken up Sasuke's trainin… hmm?’
Hiruzen felt troubled. Just as he decided to let Kakashi increase Sasuke's training, he read in Yoshi's report that Sasuke didn't think of Kakashi as capable enough to teach him.
Hiruzen analyzed, ‘There is no doubt that Kakashi is the best person to teach Sasuke. Be it the Sharingan, Lightning nature or Kakashi's vast array of jutsus and expertise. He's even more suitable than me to teach Sasuke.
Unfortunately, due to his loss against Itachi, Kakashi's image has drastically fallen in Sasuke's mind. He won't be satisfied if I force him to keep training under Kakashi. However, who do I appoint to train Sasuke?’
Even though Kakashi was the optimal candidate, Hiruzen understood Sasuke's emotions perfectly. He realized forcing Sasuke would have a negative result. Unfortunately, there weren't many options.
Hiruzen thought, ‘The only ones with a greater prestige than Kakashi are Jiraiya, Tsunade, myself and Fujin. Jiraiya's teaching style doesn't suit Sasuke. Neither does Tsunade's style. I could train him, but in my current state, he might respect me even less than Kakashi. That only leaves Fujin… However…’
Hiruzen felt another headache. Normal missions were one thing, but asking Fujin for personal favors was very expensive. Hiruzen didn't want to have such a conversation with Fujin so quickly after waking up. He wasn't sure whether his soul could handle such an intense battle. Though he could let Tsunade handle it, he had a feeling he would regret not aiding her.
Hiruzen thought, ‘I've to be there. Anyway, should I do that?’
Hiruzen fell even deeper in thoughts. For some time, he forgot everything around him, focusing entirely on this troublesome matter. He didn't turn the pages in the file for several minutes.
“You've been thinking for quite a while, Sensei. Is everything alright?” Tsunade asked. She knew that Hiruzen was still suffering tremendously and was concerned for his health.
Hiruzen turned his gaze towards Tsunade. The look in his eyes surprised Tsunade. Never before in her life had she ever seen Hiruzen being so unsure. She could see the intense struggle happening inside him even though she didn't know what it was. Hiruzen, the man who didn't hesitate to become the decoy to let his comrades and sensei escape, hesitated long and hard before coming to a decision.
He let out a long sigh and muttered, “Shizune, bring Jiraiya here.”
Shizune was surprised but followed immediately. Hiruzen softly said, “You guys, secure the office.”
Tsunade's Anbu Guards flickered out of the room and activated all the seals. Before Tsunade could ask, Hiruzen said, “There's something you should know. But, let's wait for Jiraiya to come here.”
Tsunade nodded. The two waited in silence for Jiraiya to come. The confusion in Hiruzen's mind slowly faded away during this time. He became more sure of his decision. When Jiraiya returned, Hiruzen asked Shizune to stay outside.
Jiraiya asked, “Is everything alright?”
Hiruzen replied, “It is, but there's something you should hear too. Take a seat.”
Jiraiya grabbed a chair and became comfortable as he and Tsunade wondered what Hiruzen wanted to say. As Hiruzen began speaking, surprise appeared on their faces. In the next few minutes, their surprise changed to shock, which quickly changed to disbelief and by the end, they were completely stunned. Hiruzen could only see the grim expressions on his two students.
Jiraiya and Tsunade stayed silent for a long time, unable to digest the truth behind the Uchiha Massacre! Even in their wildest dreams, they didn't imagine something like this would have happened when neither of them were in the village.
Finally, Jiraiya muttered, “To think things deteriorated to such an extent… You should have called me, Sensei.”
Hiruzen sighed, “That was my plan. With you in the village, the Uchiha Clan would have been more careful and that would have bought me the time to negotiate with the Uchiha clan. Unfortunately, Danzo went around me and influenced Itachi to do something so drastic.
Not that it reduces my fault. I completely failed to handle this matter properly. It was the greatest mistake I committed during my tenure. With Fujin's recent findings, it's almost certain that we were wrong to suspect the Uchiha clan. If true, this was a colossal failure on my part.”

If Fujin had access to the encephalograms of his students and his own, it would be much easier for him to replicate most "simple" kekkei genkai. If I remember correctly, some brain patterns are consistent across individuals, such as motor movements and thought processes like recognizing shapes, which are consistent but vary in intensity and a few other variables. Impossible but a funny mental exercise.

Now that I think about it, if Fujin does end up training Sasuke, he could use the spirit transfer technique on him like he does with his other students and get more insight into how Dojutsu based kekkei genkai's work and feel, after all, he does have a pair of Sharingan in his possession. He could also study Orochimaru's curse seal and the piece of soul inside it. He might even learn a bit about Indra's reincarnation.

Well Hiruzen was party responsible for the massacre of his clan and family, a clan that was essentiel in the founding of Konoha and pretty sure Hiruzen feels indebted to Itachi in some ways. That would certainly explain why he cares for Sasuke so much, who also happens to be named after Hiruzens own father if I remember rightly. He’s also shown himself talented with a lot of potential and the proper genetics to reach the top. However a dangerous mentality and mindset. Such shinobi needs a careful hand and nurturing

It would be fun if Fujin got the job much to Sasukes delight but then Fujin offloads him on Guy because he needs an eye opener about Taijutsu. Being frustrated about being locked up in a hospital and then being ditched by his teacher, he challenges Guy to a duel. We can have a lot of comedy there. And then trying every way possible to get Fujin to train him to escape the tortures of Might Guy, Sasuke accidentally finds out that Fujin is Akuro. Serious training starts from that point

I mean in the form of training. even the fact that Sasuke knows that it is Fujin, it will still have an effect - motivation, aggression, etc. He can’t train Sasuke like Naruto, a tougher approach is needed here.

In theory, Fujin is very easy to train Sasuke and make him stronger than canon. Itachi has already prepared the ground and Fujin can transform into him and put pressure on Sasuke in training. During periods of stagnation, send him on missions with his students. You can also send Sasuke to Guy to slightly improve his psyche and improve his taijutsu. Kakashi is currently training, but during the rest period, he can teach Sasuke lightning.

Fujin, instead of being his sensei, could be more like a counselor, similar to how he is with Naruto. That is, just giving general guidelines and recommending what to do next.

What do you mean sounds like a clone of Naruto or Fujin? I won’t argue that Kakashi isn’t as close to a perfect teacher as possible because on paper he is, but with the mentality of Sasuke he might not be, though with the mentality shift Kakashi experienced with his father that might change

Hmm, it ain't Sasuke getting the village's favor. It's Itachi (and for obvious reasons). Hiruzen wouldn't have cared much for Sasuke, beyond giving him to Kakashi, otherwise. And yeah, Hiruzen did say that Kakashi was the optimal choice for Sasuke. I'll have a bit more discussion about this in upcoming chapters. Don't worry, it'll make sense (though can't guarantee whether everyone will like 😅).

I know, other than Itachi's threat, it doesn't make sense for Hiruzen to care so much for Sasukes every little opinion, nobody besides Fujin even knows his full potential. Sasuke is just an average genius in everyone's eyes so why indulge him so much? My best guess is that people just like sad boys. 😅

nah, why he gotta train Sasuke? it's stupid. Just feels like forced writing at this point. Just feels like Sasuke yet again gets the favour of the village for no reason other than he's Sasuke. Kakashi is the only logical choice without feeling forced. Sakura to shizune/Tsunade. Naruto to Jiraiya (if he takes his time skip) Sasuke to Kakashi and even Hiruzen since he would have more indepth knowledge for Uchihas and Sasuke's affinity. Hiruzen feels more natural as a teacher since he'd be filling in the role of orochimaru plus he's got to make it up to Sasuke and keep his promise to itachi.

I stacked 44 chapters and caught up. Your dialogue has gotten way better, its still a weakpoint of the story, but I always felt that it was robotic and had no flow. great to see that youve improved so drastically, your use of contractions has also gotten much better, which makes the dialouge flow more cleanly. at this point, the only advice i can give for improvment is to read more media. fanfics, novels, whatever has well written dialogue, if you ever have the time.

One does not need to be a master of the skills their students will eventually specialise in. I would think back on the way Fujin was taught and how one needs to find his own way, and it’s more a teaching of fundamentals, thought patterns, finding and solving weaknesses in mind/body/soul. In terms of lightning release he could send him to Kakashi for appearance sake, and once reaching the proper level all he would need to guide Sasuke is to ask the right questions or give him the proper ideas to continue his development

Hmm, the only reason I could see them swearing Fujin in is if he became Sasuke’s teacher and Itachi’s diseased has progressed enough that the time had come for their battle. At least in this point in time. Another reason could be Fujin showing encountering Itachi or him “learning” more information about the attack or akatsuki

I like the thought process of Hiruzen concerning Itachi’s motivations, makes a lot of sense and Hiruzen knowing about Itachi’s disease as well. With Tsunade and Jiraiya now being in the know should have some minor to major consequences. Not including the rollercoaster that is Fujin. No way will we see a Jiraiya dying in Ame, due to being unprepared.

One of Sasuke's major disadvantages is his perspective. This is partly due to his age, but he tends to make very impulsive decisions instead of taking some time to reflect. For example, he should already know from his fight with Itachi that his strengths are genjutsu and his superior speed and strength. If he wants to improve in these areas, he has the advantage of the Sharingan and could enhance his Chidori . Then, he has a fight with Naruto and discovers that Naruto's jutsu is stronger than Chidori, which frustrates him and strengthens his desire to leave the village. However, at no point does he deeply reflect on things. Orochimaru never demonstrated skill with lightning techniques, never showed strength in genjutsu, and never specialized as a physical combatant. In contrast, in Konoha, he has exactly the right teachers. If he wants a jutsu superior to Chidori, he can copy it from Naruto. If he wants to improve his Chidori and Rasengan, he has the best teacher fully available to train him(Kakashi) . If he wants to enhance his physical abilities, he has Guy. The only thing he couldn't improve is his cursed seal, but several characters could tell him that the seal isn’t everything and that the ultimate goal is Sage Mode. With just that, he would be on Itachi's level(since no one knows the true level of itachi).

I think fujin could reveal that he has the ability to use lighting he’s shown every element off but lighting I think that every ninja can at least use the element but being proficient in it is different. Also even though water is fujin’s weakest didn’t hiruzen get him to jounin level in fire,earth,and water?

And then talk them into taking out danzo by telling them if they train sasuke to itachi level and sasuke finds out the truth to sasuke it will look like the entire leaf village was in on this conspiracy instead of the elders and danzo. Well fujin can take his foundation to the next level: guy Taijutsu, senju Taijutsu, samurai skills and the rasengan. He can tell to sasuke to use the pill and shadow clone trick. And he can advice sasuke that the curse seals is just a half backed version of senjutsu so there is no reason to be dependent on this.

I know but the thing is, Fujin has never used lightning in public i think. I'm not sure people know he can use lightning jutsu. There's no report of him using that. Maybe earth release, but lightning? One of the major thing that make people subconsciously separate him from Akuro, despite doing the connection is that they think he doesn't know jackshit about lightning jutsu. Because even mid lightning user can do crazy thing with the thundersword.

He can teach sasuke about lightning jutsus, he knows a little bit of everything but can only show talent with wind, remember that sasuke is a genin, fujin can teach advance concepts about the rest and send sasuke to kakashi only to learn advanced stuff about lightning, to me sasuke probably will accept fujin as main teacher and kakashi as assistant

I can't see Fujin teaching Sasuke. What's he gonna teach? Wind release? Maybe swordmanship. He can't show his lightning to Sasuke and he knows Sasuke is an extremely important factors to defeat kaguya in the future, so he would actually care about sasuke not being too weak for the grand final. Sasuke, an extremely talented lightning user should swallow his unwillingness and train honestly with kakashi. If my headcanon is right and Oro didn't teach Sasuke lightning, then him training with Kakashi would make him stronger than his shipudden canon
