Getting an Upgrade: The Nanobot Upgrade (TG-Empress)

It’s currently the year 4534, and in this age, society has reached the peak of medical science and body manipulation through biological and technological means. It’s been used in tons of different ways.
Some of its uses have helped the planet and humans evolve to be faster and stronger, while others have been used for entertainment, like the underworlds fighting arena, which I’ve always been a big fan of.
I was even there when the best fighter the arena has ever seen fought her final battle, and though she lost because the other guy cheated and she needed to save us all, it was still one of her best, and I’ll never doubt she was the best fighter ever.
She even inspired me to start looking into finally upgrading my body, though not for battle, but to help me out with my job as a starcruiser mechanic. Of course, I had no idea what to get at first, so I spent the last year trying to figure out what I wanted.
I work on one of the biggest interstellar starcruisers, but with how rare mechanics are, I’m the only one who works on it, so I need something to help me out doing things like my daily checks and even bigger repairs on the spot.
There were tons of types of upgrades, but none that really seemed to work for me. I thought I was out of luck and was going to pick up some basic things to upgrade myself with, but then I saw this nanobot core for sale for a decent price.
It’s meant to be installed on the ship and programmed to do things. The core itself will then create the nanobots and send them out. I could get that and install it in the ship, or I could do something completely unusual and turn it into an body upgrade and put it inside myself
For some reason I thought that was a great idea, so I bought that and took it back to my work station on my ship. I then got to work right away altering the nanobot core. I made a special chip to pair with it, one that I’ll install into my head so that way I can fully control the nanobots and give them orders.
Once I get it all together, I take it over to an upgrade machine and put all the parts inside. Once I calibrate the machine and tell them how to use the parts, I lie down inside it, and it puts me to sleep while it works on my body.
I had no idea how long I was out for, but once the machine woke me up, I could feel the nanobot core was installed into my body, with a panel on my arms also installed for them to come out of when needed.
I tap my temple and wince in a bit of pain, which confirms to me that the chip I made to control the nanobots was installed. I knew I should have waited a bit before testing them, but I was excited to see what they could do.
Nanobots were capable of doing almost anything. He should be able to use them for doing his tasks as a mechanic, but he should also be able to use them to alter biological things, like his or other people's bodies.
While I’m not sure using them on myself is illegal, it was surely illegal to use them on others. So I’ll once again be my own test subject. Using my new implant, I connect with the nanobot core and think of something to make them do.
I decided to tell them to grow my hair out while also changing the color of it to blue for the hairs on top and red for the hairs below. That way it wasn’t something that would alter me that much but would be semi-challenging.
If they managed to do this, then I’d know they’re working perfectly and should be able to help me with work. It took a few minutes for them to get to work, but slowly my hair started to change color, and once it was blue and red, it started growing rapidly.
They grew my hair out until it touched my butt, and it not only looked super cool, but it was even softer than it was before. These nanobots were amazing, and I couldn’t wait to use them more, perhaps on myself to help fix some things I’ve always disliked about myself.
I leave my station on the ship and head over towards the barber shop in order to get the hair I just grew cut. I could probably use the nanobots for that, but it seems like a bit of a waste for something so simple.
Once I arrive, a woman stylist comes and gets me and puts me on the chair. She then starts hitting buttons and asking me which style I’d like the machine to give me. She then shows me a ton of very feminine cuts.
I pout a bit and tell her I’m a guy and that I’d like a haircut meant for guys. She raised an eyebrow and seemed surprised. I squint my eyes at her and ask if she really can’t tell just because I have long hair.
I then press my hands on my chest and tell her if I were a girl, I’d have some sort of breasts. I then move my hands down to my waist. I tell her that it’s way too straight; I had no curves. I then move down to my thighs and tell her I’d make them thicker if I were a girl.
I made it very clear I was a guy, which just seemed to annoy her, and she halfheartedly apologized and then walked away without activating the machine. I sigh and get up to use the machine myself. I was a bit unfamiliar with it, but I managed to get it to say it would cut.
So I sat down and let it work, but in the end, it didn’t cut my hair like I expected. It merely made the bottom of my hair more even while giving me bangs, which made me look even more like a girl. I sigh and change my mind about using the nanobots for this.
I decided to change it once I got back to my station on the ship. Once I arrived at the ship dock, the captain of my ship was there loading things up. He sees me and is confused about who I am, since he knows everyone on his crew and I currently look different.
I was a bit embarrassed, but I told him who I was, the ship's one and only mechanic. He looked surprised as well and shrugged his shoulders. He then said he’d change my logs to female since I decided to change.
I get a bit annoyed and tell him that’s not the case. I told him about the nanocore I installed inside myself and about what happened at the barber shop. He shook his head and said he really didn’t care; if I wanted to be a girl, I could just say it.
I pout and tell him that I’m not a girl. If I were a girl, I’d give myself a more feminine face, with bigger eyes and thicker eyelashes, and most importantly, if I were a girl, I’d get rid of the manhood I had between my legs.
The captain laughed and said that was a fair point, though it was an expensive procedure, so he thought maybe I wanted to be a girl but couldn’t afford it. So he was just going to tell me the company we work for actually pays for those changes.
I was surprised to hear that, but at this point, I can make those changes myself thanks to the nanobots. I’d only have to tell them something like “make all the changes I suggested today,” and they’d do it, but I’d never do that because I’m not a girl.
I spoke with the captain a bit more about my upgrade, and he seemed a bit skeptical about it but said if it helped me be more efficient, he was more than happy that I had it. He then told me to get on the ship, as we were leaving the next day for a multiyear-long trip.
So I head on up to my station, which has my small apartment attached. I get into my suit and then have the nanobots make a slight adjustment to it so that the suit doesn’t block them from coming out. I did get a weird single back from them at that moment.
Apparently some of the already made nanobots were doing something else, maybe repairing any internal damage I might have sustained after years of working here and lifting heavy things, so I didn’t think much of it.
Not until after I finished my pre-takeoff rounds, went to bed, and woke up the next day. When I woke up the next day, I had been completely transformed into a woman. A feminine face, curves, breasts, a bigger butt and thighs, and no manhood—all the hypothetical changes I mentioned.
All of them had happened; somehow the nanobots changed me even though I didn’t give them a direct order, or maybe they thought I was giving them a direct order, which means I need to tweak my chip a bit to make sure I don’t accidentally change myself again in the future.
I was about to work on that, but I suddenly got an alert that a part of the ship was malfunctioning. So I put my embarrassment about being a woman and my desire to fix it away and ran to do my job. I ended up using my nanobots to help me, which wore out my nanobot core.
That meant it needed time to cool off, reset, and start making more before I could use it. So I was stuck as a girl for another day. I had planned to have them change me back and then work on fixing my chip after that, but a mechanic's job is never done.
Every time I tried to work on it, something important came up, and I had to go fix it right away, and I’d once again wear my nanobot core out, but at least my idea to use them was working well. I could repair things so much quicker, as well as repair things that would normally be unrepairable.
My captain has been super impressed with it; he even watched me once and looked amazed, but maybe that was because of my current body. I mean, it was quite sexy, and he knew how the nanobots worked. So he likely thinks I changed myself on purpose.
It also doesn’t help that I haven’t changed back yet, but in the end, it was truly a good and unique upgrade, and the downside was that I accidentally turned myself into a woman and can’t get the time to turn back. Hopefully I get the chance one of these days; if I have to wait until we go back to the overworld, I’d have been a girl for over five years at that point.

My thought on it... Hmmmm... Well, it would be a long time, and it's hard not to see the character getting a lot more attention from the other crew members while they're all in space together for that long, so I could totally see the main character dating one of them, and perhaps that relationship will show her that she sort of likes her new body; at the very least, by the time she gets back, she'll be used to this new body, so changing again might seem like a pain. As for the image, I'm glad you like it! I also really like that type of hair and actually specifically requested it for this story. If I did more sci-fi/cyberpunk-esque stories, I'd probably have characters with hair like this more often because, to me, cool hair like this screams future.

this is a very cool story i really liked how the main character first unknowingly sets tasks for his nanobots and then accidentally orders them to complete these tasks... i really liked it a lot! i also liked that he wants to get his body back but he just doesn't have time for it! by the way i'm interested to know your opinion will he try to get his old body back when their journey ends or will she discover unexpected advantages in her new body? (maybe she'll even start dating someone from the crew?)... and one more thing i REALLY liked the art for this story i really like the characters who have similar two-tone hair when the top layer is one color and the bottom is another... i also like when the tips of the hair are a different color from the main part of the hair but i like this option a little less than the difference between the outer layer and the inner one... the only problem is that characters with such hairstyles are rare and in reality such things only happen in exceptional cases. . . anyway i got distracted i just wanted to say that the story is very good and i really liked it
