D&D Adventures: The Thief II (Ea)

I only ever did one part of the story and never got to make the second part, and it's been so long, so I'm remaking the originals and then will make the ending this story deserved. So enjoy the new expanded version of the world and characters.
The story starts here:
While watching, she noticed there was little to no security at the mansion. There was only a very tall and very buff Amazonian warrior patrolling around. “She may be alone, but I definitely don’t want to fight her. No way I can take on that tank; I’d need one of Kyle’s characters to stand a chance.”
Cleo watches her go around the building and out of sight. “Luckily, the mansion is huge, and she can’t be everywhere at once. I suppose I should go ahead and break in.” Cleo sits up and climbs down the tree and was about to sneak over but stopped.
She looked down at herself and frowned. “Perhaps a bright orange outfit is not the best thing to be sneaking around in.” Cleo reaches for her bag and pulls out the bodysuit. “This should work perfectly.” She says as she starts removing her pouches.
It took her a few minutes to get changed, mostly because she was still embarrassed about the changes to her body, and she didn’t want to look at herself. Once she was changed, she put on one of her pouches and hid her clothes, along with the other pouch, behind the tree.
“Alright, sneaky time.” Cleo knew the warrior woman watched the front of the house more, so she walked around towards the back and climbed one of the trees to use it to hop over the large fence surrounding the mansion.
She then lay on the grass and slowly crawled towards the door; that way, if anyone looked out, they wouldn't see much since she was wearing all black and it was dark. “Alright, I made it to the exterior. Time to break in.”
Cleo pulled herself up to the windowsill and was about to use her thieves kit to unlock it, but that room currently had the warrior woman in it, so that would be a bad idea. So instead, Cleo climbed up the side of the mansion and went to a window on the second floor.
Cleo pulled out her thieves kit and started to use it to pick the window. Once she did it and it opened a bit, she stopped and looked down at it. “Wait… I just know how to use them? I thought I’d struggle a bit, as I’ve never done this before, but no… I just did it without thinking… That’s pretty cool.”
Cleo put her kit away and then climbed in through the window, making sure to be as quiet as possible. She then left the room she found herself in and went into the hall, walking slowly and listening for any sounds.
She walked by a door that had two people inside it talking. Cleo peeks through the keyhole and sees two women. One was blonde and wearing very fancy robes, perhaps those of a noble or even a powerful mage.
“She has to be the governor.” Cleo thought before looking towards the other woman. She had long, beautiful red hair and an amazing body and was wearing what looked like a normal dancer-type outfit. “She must be the governor’s entertainment.” Cleo thought as she watched.
“The governor’s got good taste; Jake would love the way she looks… Oh, wait! This is a golden opportunity for me. I should have no trouble getting into the basement if the governor is distracted in her room.” Cleo whispers before turning around and quietly walking off towards the stairs.
Once at the bottom, Cleo sees the warrior woman outside and smiles. “Perfect, hopefully there’s no one else here.” Cleo walks through the main hallway and finds the entrance to the basement. “Awesome, there’s the vault.”
Cleo runs over to it and places and pulls the lever, then sighs. “Of course it won’t just open.” Cleo took a step back and looked over the safe. “It seems I can’t pick it, so I’ll have to get lucky. Here’s hoping I roll a nat twenty on trying to guess the lock combination.”
Cleo presses her ear against the vault door and starts turning the dial. After a minute, she hears a click and looks surprised. “I can hear it!” Cleo smiled as she started to turn the dial the other way until it clicked again. “Two down, two to go.”
A few more minutes go by, and Cleo manages to get the other two cylinders in the lock mechanism in the right place, and once she does, the vault door cracks open. “Sweet! I’m so awesome!!!” Cleo whispered as she grabbed the door and pulled it open a bit so she could squeeze through.
Cleo walks in, and her eyes go wide. “There’s so much gold in here.” Cleo walks by the piles and grabs a few handfuls and shoves the gold into her pouch. She then looks around the vault for what would be the most valuable thing inside.
At first Cleo thought it would be one of the many large gems, from massive red rubies to lava-red diamonds, but then she found a strange amulet on a pedestal. Cleo walked over to it and examined it. “It’s covered in runes, and the jewel inside had some sort of cloud moving around inside it.”
Cleo picked it up. “It’s quite heavy as well… This has to be it; something about it screams important, like maybe it’s some sort of important quest item.” Cleo slips it into her clothing and then turns towards the vault door.
Before she could take a step, the pedestal the amulet was on went down a bit, and then a very loud alarm started going off. Cleo jumped a bit from being startled and looked around. “Darn it, that’s not good.” She then looked down at the vault door, which was now starting to close.
“That’s really not good… I have to go now…” Cleo said as she started sprinting towards the exit. She made it to the door at the last possible second and slipped through before the vault door had the chance to crush her. Once on the other side, she stopped for a second and took a deep breath.
“That was too close. I would have been done for if I got trapped. Though, I’m not really in the clear yet…” “You can say that again, rat,” yelled a masculine-sounding female voice. Cleo gulped and looked up to find the Amazonian woman standing there with a large greatsword.
The Amazonian pointed her sword at Cleo. “Put your hands up now.” Cleo frowned and put her hands up. “Uh… I think there’s been a misunderstanding… I work here…” Cleo said, hoping to succeed in deceiving the Amazonian.
“Yeah, right. You’re clearly a thief; I mean, you’re literally in all black, and I watched you come out of the vault. Only an idiot would believe you. Now, unless you want to lose those arms, you’ll keep them up,” the Amazonian said as she moved closer.
“Darn it, this is really bad. I don’t want to get caught or worse, die… what to do… Wait, the basement is pretty narrow and filled with stuff; she’ll have a hard time swinging that big blade of hers. Perhaps I can use that?” Cleo thought to herself.
Cleo took a step back and quickly lowered her arms and pulled out her daggers. “I warned you, rat,” the Amazonian yelled as she tried to swing her sword, but she realized what Cleo had realized, that she couldn’t do much here with it.
Cleo stabbed the Amazonian’s arm, causing her to drop her sword, then she dove underneath her to climb through her legs, while the woman screamed in pain about being stabbed. Cleo had managed to get past her and thought she had a chance to escape.
However, the Amazonian was tough, and a small dagger stab wasn’t enough to stop her. So once she recovered, she simply turned around and grabbed Cleo from behind. Then the Amazonian, using all her strength, tossed Cleo into the stone basement wall.
Cleo hit it face first, and as she did, she felt the amulet she stole shatter. Cleo then slid down the wall and fell onto the floor. Her vision was blurry, and she was quite dizzy, likely from a concussion. The Amazonian came walking over.
Before she said anything to Cleo, the mysterious voice started speaking again. “Cleo has failed her quest. A new quest has started: your goal is to escape prison.” Cleo shook her head. She was starting to lose consciousness, so focusing on that was hard. “Huh… escape???” She mumbled.
The Amazonian made it to Cleo and looked pissed. “Stay down; if you get up, I’ll see if I’m strong enough to rip you in half.” Cleo nodded. “Yeah… I’ll… Stay down… I surrender… just don’t… kill me…” Cleo said before her head fell to the side and she passed out.
The Amazonian looked down surprised. “I must have thrown her harder than I thought… Hopefully she doesn’t actually die….” The Amazonian says worriedly, but then her face suddenly changes and looks horrified.
“What… What do you mean I failed my quest? I caught the thief… Unless… oh no, the governor…” The Amazonian quickly ran up the stairs, leaving Cleo unconscious on the floor alone, but it wasn't like she was going to wake up anytime soon.

I think the whole you failed and can't leave will still come up; I just thought that it wasn't super well used in the originals. This way I can give them a few more quests to do and, in turn, expand the story further. How I'm thinking about using it is first having them discover what I'll call their ultimate task, which would be the one to send them back home, and if they fail that, then the box will tell them they failed and can't go back. How does somehting like that sound?

Well, what can I say... The story is very good, but it's really just an updated version... But I have to admit that the update did the story good because as far as I remember, the original story didn't have this battle scene, but I really liked it... Plus, I periodically caught myself thinking that somewhere outside someone was saying "roll a d20 for deception with disadvantage"! And yes, the most important, albeit not very noticeable change. In this version of the story, although the task is also failed, they are not stuck in this world... I don't know how I feel about this change... on the one hand, it makes the story a little brighter than the previous version, but on the other hand, in the previous version of the story, salvation with the help of Danny would have been more exciting, but in theory, the others can get out of this world themselves... In general, I'm not sure about this dimension... in all other senses, this story is simply excellent and I really liked it, so I will look forward to the continuation!
