It was early in the morning and best friends Rose and May were both inside the bathroom getting ready for a costume convention that was being held in their city later on in the day. Both were very excited and very nervous.
It was the first time each of them was going while wearing a costume, and it was the first time they’ve gone to something so big since they both came out and started their different transition journeys.
Rose had woken up first in order to shower and dry her hair since she had so much of it. By the time she was done drying her hair, May was just getting out of the shower. Rose looked May up and down and then stopped at May’s chest.
Rose made a playfully pouty face as she lifted her hands up to her chest and touched it. May chuckled and then patted Rose on the head. “You know, if you’re so jealous, you could work on growing your own.”
Rose pouted for real this time as she looked down at herself. “Maybe you’re right… It would make things easier not to have to wear all those pads and shapewear… So I guess I’ll think about it.” Rose said as she walked over to the mirror.
May chuckled some more as she sat down to dry her hair. “You say that every time, but that’s okay. No matter what you decide to do, you’ll be beautiful in my eyes.” Rose suddenly turned around, face bright red.
“WHY ARE YOU GETTING SO SAPPY ALL OF A SUDDEN!” Rose yelled. May just smiled and turned on her blow-dryer. Rose stopped yelling and shook her head; she then turned back towards the mirror and smiled.
Rose grabbed her waist cincher and put it on. She went all the way to the last hooks in order to give herself a much slimmer waist. She then grabbed a pair of panties designed for women with extra bits in that region and put them on.
That allowed her to comfortably tuck it away so it wouldn’t be noticeable. Over that she grabbed some long shapewear underwear, one with special pockets on the hips and butt that allow pads to be slipped inside.
Rose filled them right up, giving her the appearance of a slightly curvy body. “Hehe, looking good, Rose.” Rose said to herself as she gave herself thumbs up. “That’s adorable.” May said from behind her.
Rose nearly jumped out of her shapewear. “Ma… May… What are you… Weren't you drying your hair???” May said, completely embarrassed. May put her hand over her face and laughed. “I was, but my hair is a third of the length of yours and is much thinner, so it dries quickly.”
“Right…” Rose said as she looked down. “Why so embarrassed, you were right. You do look good, but you have one more piece to put on, right?” May said as she looked at Rose’s bra hanging on the mirror. “Oh right, the best part.” Rose said as she grabbed it and put it on.
Rose then walked over to a box and grabbed a pair of breast forms out. “Time to install my boobs.” Rose said in a slightly childish manner. May smiled and shook her head, then began to get her panties and underwear on much like Rose had.
Rose messes around with her bra and breast forms for a bit, as she wants them to be comfortable and look right, and while they did both those things the first time, her lack of confidence in herself always makes her do it a few times.
By the time Rose finally liked the way they were, May had come in holding both of their costumes. “Which one was mine again, Naminé or Kairi?” May said as she looked at each one. “I’m Kairi, you’re Naminé.” Rose said as she grabbed her costume.
As she did, May looked a bit nervous. “What’s wrong, girl? You don’t like it?” Rose asked, genuinely concerned. “No… I mean, I love it. I love Naminé and Kingdom Hearts… it’s just going to be so embarrassing walking around in a short white dress.” May said as she pulled the dress out.
Rose puffed her cheeks. “I know what you mean. I feel the same way, but remember what you said. We have to be each other’s rock, and as long as we’re together, we can muster the courage and confidence to do this.” May suddenly smiled.
“Yes, you’re right… I have you by my side, so everything will be alright.” With that, the two continued getting ready. They slipped their dresses on, then the rest of the accessories, then the wigs. After that they did each other's makeup and started the drive to the convention.
Once they arrived and used their passes to get in, that temporary confidence they managed to muster vanished when they saw the thousands of people walking around. “I uh…” Rose said nervously. “Yeah… this is a lot more than I expected…” May said as she frantically looked around.
Rose grabbed May’s hand. “It’ll… it’ll be alright… let’s just go hug a wall as we walk…” She said as she pulled May along. They make it to the wall, which does have fewer people around it, and they use that to make their way through the convention.
They thought this would work out for them, but it only made them more notable, and someone liked how they looked and wanted a picture. “Hey, you two look amazing! Can I get a picture?” The man said as he pulled out his phone.
May froze in place. “Pp-pi-pi-pi…” She stuttered. As she stood there, the guy looked suddenly disappointed. “Oh, it seems your friend wasn’t interested, what about you?” May was a bit confused and turned her head to look at Rose.
It turned out Rose had run off immediately and was hiding behind a trashcan nearby, watching. “Co-co–co–coward…” May mutters. The man noticed May was nervous and took his photo quickly. “Thanks, you look amazing; I hope you enjoy the con!” He said as he ran off.
Now alone, May was able to compose herself and ran over to Rose and started playfully punching her. “Ow, ow, ow. Stop it.” Rose said as she held her arms over her head. “You abandoned me; I thought we were in this together.” May said, slightly mad.
“I know… I’m sorry… it won’t happen again… I promise… so please… stop hitting me…” Rose said as she moved her arms back down. “Fine, but you have to make up for this by getting us lunch, and you have to do it alone.” May said with a smile on her face.
Rose gulped… “Fine… that’s fair… I guess.” After that the two stood up and discussed what to eat, and once that was settled. Rose got in line and started waiting. At first she was having mild panic attacks, but as time went on and the line moved more and more, they stopped.
Once Rose got to the front of the line and ordered, she strangely had no problem telling the people exactly what she wanted, which was quite unusual. As she was walking back to May with the food, she noticed her shapewear wasn’t as tight.
“Hey May, do I look okay? My stuff feels slightly looser for some reason.” Rose asked as she sat down next to May to start eating. “I was going to ask you the same thing. I strangely feel a bit off, but I think maybe our nervousness and hunger may be getting to us.” May said right before digging in.
Rose shrugged and took a bite of her food. “You’re probably right.” The two ate their meal together, stopping to chat a bit about what to do next and the costumes of people around them. Once they were done, they tossed their trash and headed to the market area to buy stuff.
Normally the two of them would only browse from afar, but today they were actually walking up to tables, and as they continued looking, they began to chat with the sellers a bit, and before they knew it each of them was buying things to take home.
They were super excited about all the things they got and quite proud of themselves for speaking with people and being more confident in themselves, and as they left the market area, the two of them felt better than ever.
“That was a lot of fun; I almost ran out of money though.” Rose said as she laughed. “I know what you mean; I bought so many plushies.” May said as she hugged the bag. “It really wasn’t that bad; I don’t know why I was so panicked about all of this before.” May said as she let go of her bag.
“Same, I was so worried. I guess about myself and how people would see us, but no one here cares. Everyone is here having fun, like we should.” Rose as she looked around with a smile. “You’re right; since we’re feeling pretty confident at the moment, she should head to the game room.”
May said as she pointed at it. “Oh yeah, that would be so much fun. I wonder what games they have. Oh but before that, I need to hit the restroom; I swear something is off with the stuff under my costume. Even my breast forms feel off, almost like they’re stuck to me or something.”
Rose said as she looked down. “I’ve had a similar feeling, so maybe checking everything would be a good idea.” May said as she looked down and pressed her legs together, after which the two started making their way to the restroom.
Before they could go in, though, a couple dressed as Sora and Roxas stopped them. “Oh my, you two are so pretty! Could we get a picture with you both?” The Roxas cosplayer said. Rose looked at May and the two smiled. “Yeah, of course, a group photo would be awesome.” Rose said cheerfully.
The four of them then found someone to take their pictures, and then they all gathered up together. “Awesome, thanks so much!” The Roxas cosplayer said as she looked at it. “Yeah, this is super awesome. Thanks so much!” The Sora cosplayer said as she walked off with the Roxas cosplayer.
Rose and May sat there smiling and waving goodbye for a moment. Once they were gone, the two of them turned towards each other, surprised. They started cheering about how they just took a photo with strangers without hesitation.
It made them feel so good, and they were bursting at the seams with confidence. “That was so awesome! I want to take more photos!” May cheered. “Same, but first let me hit the restroom and make sure everything is right.”
Rose said as she ran inside. May followed her and each of them went into a separate stall. Rose removed her dress to check the stuff under it. “Huh? My cincher is gone… as well as the rest of my shapewear… How is this…”
Before Rose could finish that thought, May started yelling from the next stall. Moments later May was pounding on Rose’s stall door, asking to come in. Rose let her in and quickly closed the door behind her. “May, are you okay what’s going on?” Rose asked worriedly.
May just looked at Rose in the eyes and smiled. “It’s gone.” Rose raised an eyebrow. “Oh, you lost something as well? I seemed to have lost a lot of things.” Rose said as she pointed down at herself. May gasped and covered her mouth as she looked at Rose.
“It happened to you as well! That’s amazing!” Rose tilted her head. “What happened? What are you talking about?” May pointed down at Rose’s crotch. “Why don’t you find out for yourself?” She said while giggling.
Rose looked at her a bit worried but decided to humor her, and after sticking her hand down to inspect, Rose figured out what May was talking about. “It’s… it’s gone? How… where… what?” Rose was completely in shock.
May put her hand on Rose’s head. “Don’t worry about it; whatever happens to us, it’s a blessing. Plus, from the looks of it, you no longer have to be jealous of my chest.” Rose’s eyes got big as she realized May was right.
She then quickly looked down and pressed her chest and started laughing. “That’s amazing!!! No wonder why my breast forms feel stuck to me… they are stuck to me.” May smiled and looked at them “They’re also not breast forms anymore.”
“You’re right about that… Wait, when did this happen? Is this why we’ve been acting… you know, more confident?” Rose said as she grabbed her dress and slipped it back on. “It has to be right? We’ve never been so comfortable and natural in public like we were moments ago.”
May said with her hand on her chin. “As for when. If we know we got more confident with the change, then perhaps it’s slowly been happening all day.” Rose thought about it and that seemed to make sense.
“I guess that would make sense, but how is such a thing possible, and what do we do now?” Rose asked as she opened the restroom stall. “Who cares how it happened? I’m just glad it did. As for what we do now, I think that’s clear.” May said as the two left the restroom.
They then looked out over the convention. “We enjoy the rest of this convention, and then we go home and make the best of these changes together.” May said as she smiled at Rose. “That sounds… lovely… I like that idea.” Rose said as she smiled and grabbed May’s hand.

I'm glad to hear you perceived them as girls from the beginning, as that's correct. If you didn't, I might have had some concerns with how you see me. 😅 The way they act is slightly based on me, so I can tell you a lot of it comes from how the world treats trans people. We're led to believe we're a problem and that it should be normal to hurt and torment us, so a lot of us become shy/nervous and try to stay away from people just because we don't want them to start problems with us.

This story... I don't even know what to say about it. Basically, it's a sweet story about two girls who love each other (and yes, from the very beginning, I perceived them as girls... I'm not sure how correct that is, but for me it was easier that way)... Unfortunately, I've never been in a situation even remotely similar to theirs, and therefore I can't judge how much their fears were caused by the situation and how much were due to their character traits, but in any case, I'm glad that in the end they managed to overcome ALL their fears. I think after this, their lives will change for the better!
