I think that the majority of Mangas (and thus anime) start very simply, like a basic idea to see if bring enough interest. Then if it is popular enough, the mangaka can concentrate in develop the idea. That is why I normally give 4 episodes to se how develop. This one is to early to see if the tone is going to be the same or not. So far this is a very fun watch. As you said is not complicated, but is fun.

It’s funny you mentioned Soul Eater because the creator of that series is also the creator of a series you didn’t like last season - Fire Force.
