So, I bought another junk car, even though, I vowed to never do that again - I can restore anything mechanical, but it's so much trouble, it's hardly ever worth it, it's better to leave this sort of cars for a scrap yard... But life is making fun out of our vows and plans, as always.. With the black gryphon still being dead and no money to buy him a new engine(large diesel engines are insanely expensive) and my old dad going to work again, I had to have something he could use to get to work and back home, and also it had to be a 4x4 and an auto. I can not possibly chauffeur him to the work and back every day, also my large truck eats diesel fuel like a thirsty elephant, gotta have something more economical for a city drive...
So there we are.. I bought the cheapest toyota sprinter carib on the market, year 1990 model, of course it's far from perfect x) It did drive back home 1500kms on its own from the place where I bought it, but smoking badly, both black and blue smoke, eating oil like crazy, also the CVs are dangling, ball joints are busted, tailshaft play is enormous, engine is clogged with carbon inside, all the rubbers are fossilized there, and the DIRT everywhere, centimeters-thick layers of clay and old oil covering everything under the hood xD Okaaaay, needs a lil bit of mechanic work! x)
But there are good things too.. It lived far south in a small town, so there is no rust, like at all. And the engine, tranny and steering rack all have been replaced not so long ago, apart from the horrible contamination, no maintenance whatsoever and rubber seals faulty it has not been worn out. The body has got traces of damage from careless offroad - some people tried to kill the poor thing upon rocks or something, but not from road crash collisions, all the major geometry is okay.
Toyota sprinter carib, is a 4x4 compact four-wheel drive station wagon that was sold in the Japan from like 1988ish to 1995ish, it has got solid rear axle, hydraulic clearance system, center differential lock, and all the bells and whistles of that era. 1.6 liter petrol engine producing like 105-115 Hp, with the light weight it had, it was quite an eager to move car. The name "carib" came either after the Caribbean isles or the caribou deer like some sources claim. Was sold as "toyota tercel 4wd" or "corolla alltrac" in some other countries.

I've owned beaters before and they're hit&miss... sometimes you get one that's tough and lasts forever, and sometimes you get one that's falling apart. You probably know this, but sometimes just the right fluid can help. An engine flush like Kleen-Flo can clean up all the gummy deposits that accumulate over the life of the car. If the car is burning oil, Lucas brand Oil Stabilizer helps. Seafoam is a good oil additive to lubricate better and extend engine life. All these are much cheaper alternatives to repairs.
