Dev Report #40 (July 14th, 2024)

Didn't plan on having an "Official" report until after the update(s) were out but I also didn't plan on them not being out yet.
To let you guys know what's been happening:
I've ran into a few issues with finishing up E13. The scale of the change grew and I faced a number of issues with daz crashing. I've also been dealing with an issue of compiling the android version of the game. There's also been a number of small life things getting in the way.
The release time frames were a big mistake and it is 100% valid to be pissed at me about them. The reason I separated these updates into two different ones was to have something out for you guys sooner. The issues effectively wiped my chances of that so splitting them no longer makes much sense.
So this update will now be both E13 and E14. It will end up being around 1700 renders and over 40 animations. I have 2 scenes left to finish up and a few animations left. So there is some work left to do. To set an expectation, due to the issues I don't anticipate all of the render work and playtesting to be finished until about the 20th.
Though that isn't a hard date, it will be out this month and I promise I'm doing everything I can to have it out as soon as possible.
I'm also starting to post the daily tracker in the discord again to hopefully give you guys a better idea of what I'm working on.
I want to once again say that I know I have handled this release very poorly for way too long and I take full accountability for that. I want to keep my updates small but I get stuck on a scene and it takes me too long or I rework too many things and I get into my head about it. I'll feel guilty about it and panic myself into working ahead or expanding on something until it ends up being a large update which I have other issues with. This time I hit a double-whammy and ran into life issues along the way.
The idea of having beta updates was meant to alleviate some of that and it was working until I got majorly stuck on the Daliah scene. I do intend on returning to those type of updates moving forward.
I'm not making any 52/52 promises or anything like that, but I absolutely intend on update sizes being more in that 100-200 range and being way more frequent.
Apologies if this report didn't seem too focused, I had some stuff I had to get done today and I wrote this up quickly so I can get back to work on the update and make up for some lost time today.

Art takes as long as it takes? Not if the art is actually a product that people are paying for. Then it's a business just like everything else. I do happen to work at a gaming company and our artists do truly amazing things that I could only dream on. But they, just like everyone else, have deadlines. Because they deliver part of a product that people pay for. The hiding behind "oh but it's art, leave him alone" is really beginning to annoy me.

And "business" its a word that changes all of this. If WVM was a free, hobby product, we all must shut up and stop complain but since this is a PRODUCT of his BUSINESS and US are his CLIENTS, we have every right to complain. Imagine you pay for a subscription to a product that delivers X products to you every Y times. For example... I don't know... a box with 15 drinks per month, and then suddenly you stop receiving the product for 7 months, would that be okay with you? Would you post "keep up the good work with those drinks" on that company's page? Wouldn't you do everything you can to get your money back? At this point I don't care about the money, because since BD started lying and having these problems i lowered my subscription to the minimum, but believe me, if i were paying a subscription of 20 euros / dollars a month, i would read every term of the Patreon conditions, to get all the money paid so far. 20$ per month on a 7 months delay its 140$... 2x what you pay for a 3A game. Even though you may not want to believe it, THIS IS THE SAME THING, VWM is a product of your business.

Bd you need to learn not to over explain and over promise. Example: Hi all, It’s been a great week with lots of progress being made. I finished the writing for a couple of scenes that really make the characters flourish. I also have renders coming out at a good pace. Add a little coding and my week will be complete. The only real issue i have right now is the fact that once this update FINALLLYYY drops then we have to wait till mid 2025 just to recive an actually update about the next one, i get that life happens and i get that its a choice to subscribe, not a obligation but its justtt likee when are we going to actually have consistency with BD???? The problem her is alot of people will agree but none of them speak up in fear of hurting his feelings or fear that by saying how it is will maybe make him delay releases even further, guess what? IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE! I have no idea what goes on in his personal life and tbh its none of my business but he is meant to be providing a service and failing time and time again! That is bad business at the end of the day and he needs to hear that!

Exactly mate, we are not here to moan and complain, we are here to play a game we enjoy but when it's excuse after excuse/ delay after delay I'd say we are well within our rights to voice our opinions. It's not like he missed a release date and we are straight on him, this has been ongoing for a long time and BD needs to hear the truth whether him or his dick hugger followers like it or not. I'm here because I want to be here, if I want to vent and voice my opinions I'll also do that. I'm not or dont claim to be a game developer so why would I go "start my own game" I don't doubt for a second it's hard work, I have never said otherwise so you suggesting I go start my own game is irrelevant and stupid but thanks for your input. I've sucked it up in silence for a long time but the constant bullshit excuses are wearing thin. At this stage it would probably be better to just post a dev report saying ''I couldn't be bothered working on it so don't expect it any time soon'' that would be more believable than what seems like the usual copy/paste excuses we seem to get almost every time we hear from you. As for anyone gonna jump on this comment trying to defend him and taking a shot at me, don't waste your time! You want to buy into the bullshit then carry on but I'm entitled to my opinion the same as all of you 👍
