Electronics magazines used to be so good. That issue also has part 8 of a desktop electronic calculator, built from TTL. I liked Elektor better than PE though, and Wireless World was brilliant until it went downhill : roughly coincided with dropping the 'perfect' binding.

Wow, that's a lot of work, but it looks like it has a lot of unique potential. You said it was used for performance? I wonder if someone just spilled a beer on it at some point, and it just sat in there corroding...?
