to be fair I only realised it was sub about 16 mins in. I'd say I'm an occasional dub enjoyer, and I do think this dub is one of the more iconic ones, but really you can't go wrong ether way.

Dub is definitely better. There are so many translation issues with sub. I'll give examples: when kiyoshi says bye to main girl in dub its a cute inside joke he has with her "sumo of you soon", gokuto's quirky way of speaking in a old dialect is also missing in the sub, and some of kiyoshi's phrases are more neutral in the sub and not as funny its more over the top in the dub when he says certain things. I genuinely don't understand how people can prefer sub over dub in this show. If you've only seen it sub it makes sense because you don't know how much better the dub is but if you've seen both you would definitely agree the dub is considerably better.
