32-35: Into the breach

A flood of scarlet bodies surges like an invading tide on a planet that has never seen water. More fearful of their own harsh discipline than the searing beams of energy that spear out at them, they press forwards in a pitiless, ruthless wall of flesh. They have no more sympathy for the enemy fallen than for their own.
In the front rank, terrified and powerless, Lola fights on as her luck continues to hold. She lashes out with her weapon, hunting for the shadowy figures of the alien defenders as they emerge from around corners and over walls; each glimpsed for only a moment before a bright flash of energy lashes out to snatch another Trooper's life. Exposed in the open, the Troopers continue to advance: This is not a battle of skill, but a test of sheer dumb luck, where each attacker's only hope is that there are so many red-suited bodies to shoot, she may not be the one chosen.

Picture #35: Poor Pvt Jamie screams in pain as she holds her stomach - now with a gaping wound from the Martian laser fire. The computer monitor on her helmet begins to beep: "Emergency support needed" as Jamie is losing blood fast, but with no medic standing by among the Storm Troops - her fate is sealed. Meanwhile, Lt Melissa (24 yrs old) - Lola's commanding officer - steps forward to replace the now deceased Pvt Manda, but she steps in the line of fire and is immediately become the Martian defenders' next cannon fodder. "GAAAKKK!!" Melissa screams as a laser bolt penetrates the center of her chests, giving the young officer a mortal would. Undaunted by her comrades dying screams, Lola continues firing away towards the Martian defenders....

Picture #33: Lola and her two colleagues lead the pack of the surviving Storm Troops in their assault of the Martian secret fortress. The Martians opened fire and sadly both of Lola's colleagues were mortally wounded. "AIEEE!!" Jamie (22 yrs old - left of Lola) screams as a Martian laser penetrates her stomach and scotrum. "YEEAAAGGHHH!!" Manda (20 years old - right of Lola) also screams as enemy laser penetrates her heart, killing the young Storm Trooper instantly. Feeling lucky that once again she escapes the Martian's lethal lasers, Lola open fire towards one of the assailants....

They're all dropping like flies on both sides now instead of just the one, getting a little mildly anxious for Lola now they're getting within close range, hopefully her luck holds. At least they're now at the point where they're stepping over the fallen aliens instead of just their own, so while it may be slow and costly, they're making progress, the troopers will inevitably, eventually be victorious.
