Destin's First University Lecture

It really really makes a difference... for example, you're helping me pursue the PhD, which is AMAZING. It's actually quite difficult and a bit hard to balance making Smarter Every Day, the pursuit of the degree...and try to be a good father and husband. The prioritization matrix in my head is relatively simple, with family being first.... then SED and PhD mixed in somehow.
I don't talk much about how hard I'm working on all this stuff behind the scenes, but here's a peak behind the curtain if you're interested. I thought you might like to see the first college class I ever taught. The topic is something called "Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics." I'm sure there are some of you that will have feedback on my teaching style, so I'd love to hear it. 2 hours is quite a long time to lecture, so it's not as punch as a normal YouTube video which has the power of the edit. My suggestion is to fast forward to the end to see the results of the simulations. It's an unlisted video which I made for the students... but it didn't end up being sent to them, so I thought you might be curious to see it!

Congratulation on your first class Destin! I agree, John Swanson would be proud! Ansys was my first "3D Digital Twin" tool and I spent the first part of my career building simulations for the virtual qualification of the X-band radios on the Cassini spacecraft, eventually moving on to explicit simulation in Abaqus and LS-Dyna. The democratization of digital first methods is a key component of the next industrial revolution. Thank you for making an impact on the next generation of young minds!

Well done Destin, I used to teach Police Officers how to work various computer systems and I thought that was hard. The prep for this session must have taken you months and it looks as if it all worked out which is so hard to do. I remember teaching a class of 6 student on this systems first ever course and finding out that the system only allowed one update at a time. I had to change the way I taught the whole 2 day course in the first 1/2 hour. Believe me that taught me a valuable lesson in what can go wrong and how to keep going forward. I love what you do with smarter every day but would gladly trade smarter video's for the more important things in your life. All the best to your great family and good luck for the future in whatever you decide what to do.
