Oh my god, so much happening. I expected Anaelina to be defeated this week, but I didn't expect Kai to gain another monstrous breakthrough because of it. So *that's* what he did to her in Rayakan. But that just raises more questions. What distinguishes Monstrous Hunger from demonic abilities other than the capacity to drain monsters? It's never been the series' style to hand easy victories or overpowered skills to the characters, so there has to be major limits to it. Can he drain powerful objects infused with mana, qi, or chakra too? I'm even more intrigued by his abilities now. This could be a gamechanger. I definitely didn't expect Lilaetiel to be defeated this early. It'll probably be an even fight if ZZN didn't have the injection like it was with the demonic poisoner. I don't think it gave her increased strength, it just protected her cultivation. Which means ZZN was definitely going toe to toe with Lilaetiel. ZZN's fighting style has gained such physicality from the Pure Yin Shroud. I could vividly picture how she bashed Lilaetiel's head into the wall again and again. The ZZN of before absolutely couldn't have done that back then. Assuming she reaches an equal amount of power without the PYS, she'd opt to deflecting strikes or performing palm strikes of her own. Now she can supplement her usual weapons with what is basically pure force. But it's distinct to Kai's own brand of brute force since I don't think ZZN would or could punch through Lilaetiel's stomach. Instead, the impression I get is that her physical strength is geared towards precise strikes rather than the most powerful ones like Kai would use. I've noticed her most powerful physical strikes create points of breakage rather than breaking the body entirely. Where Kai would shatter the arm, ZZN creates precise fractures that achieve the same effect. Where Kai would smash through walls, ZZN will... actually, the PYS probably isn't designed for that so she'll just go through the hole Kai made. Do the top cultivators all have some form of this? Do fights between Sky Souls or the strongest Earth Souls all have the same level of physicality? I'd been picturing cultivation as battles revolving around qi, but maybe there's more diversity than I thought. And of course, there's the biggest surprise, in a chapter already full of them. Matiavel is already here?? This is way, way sooner than I thought. There's no way they're defeating him or breaking that weapon this week. Will they run away again or go on a multi-chapter fight against him? I suppose this also means Gorutiel isn't going to be an antagonist for the rest of the book. How do you escalate from one of the great powers of Rosemount? Introducing him now would just feel like an afterthought if the trio is already facing Matiavel, and especially since ZZN and Kai have defeated their respective bosses. Even if he arrives now, he'll be ganged up on eventually. So does this mean Gorutiel is going to stick around in the series? The one demon that doesn't suck as much as his peers? Looking back at it now, maybe his whole deal with the trio arranging their escape was his sendoff for this book since it showed that unlike any other demon we've been introduced to, he's the only one who was 'reasonable' enough that Kai could negotiate deals with him multiple times. Kai accepted the first deal under duress, he initiated the second through a reward for Gorutiel, and the last one really didn't have much going for Gorutiel. He just accepted it 'cause it was tangentially beneficial for him. No other demon we've seen was capable of that. I don't trust him. He crosses too many lines for me to think he could be a semi-prominent 'ally' to the trio. But as a neutral party that sticks around? That honestly doesn't seem too bad. Of course I could be completely wrong, but it does speak to his dispositions even as a demon that I don't find the idea of him sticking around disagreeable. There's one silver lining to Matiavel's arrival. The guy is absolutely still grievously injured. During the Battle of Traebor, he was throwing around fully-formed flames. Now it's just a 'ghostly flame.' I'm betting his oneshot skills are still active, but his raw power otherwise has been reduced to a level that the trio can eventually overcome. He doesn't have comparatively exceptional defeneses like the Empress. Super excited for how all this plays out. I wonder how the trio are going to fight him. Even with heavy injuries, 1800 Power is no joke.

Kinda disappointed with analina's death, it feels really unsatisfying, she just... Accepts it? Feels like she should be more active furious she is being done what she tryed to do to so many others. She should be going out kicking and screaming, not like falling asleep.

Oh shit! Was expecting the group to face Matiavel together, but Kai is on his own at the moment. Hopefully whatever boost he got from Anaelina was big.
