3rd wife? Wait is this story a harem?

kyle

Hmm I'm thinking she is more than meets the eye....either super strong and just feeling Kai out or maybe a future 3rd wife....idk but she will be integral!

Cloudspire and Rosemount had been so hyped up since the start of the series, and I was sure that given the choice, I'd live in either compared to Deadwaste. Maybe Rosemount since Cloudspire sounds horrible if you're a peasant, and I definitely will be one. But soul cultivation has given me pause. I'm still wondering what kind of society we'd be living in if you could become more charismatic and beautiful by gaining power. Deadwaste is a caste-based shithole, and Krysal's slave economy was abhorrent. But there was at least a chance for things to become more equitable. The revolution Kai lead seems to have set the country on the right track, even if it'll take a very long time over multiple iterations of its laws and structure. But soul cultivation? A fair society just flat out sounds impossible. 100%, unambiguously impossible. It's not just that elven society's powerful elites will gain more power. That's how it is in our world, too. It's the fact that they can literally compel others to think they're superior, convincing, charismatic, worth dying for, or what have you. They can literally control minds. And how powerful even are the Elven Elders with their supposed god ability? Can they just force others to fight for them without saying anything? The more I think about soul cultivation, the more it sounds like some genuine Lovecraftian horror. I still don't agree with Gunjin, but this is the kind of power system where it really does feel like everything comes down to luck. And I'm still really excited for Kai to figure it out and increase his monstrous capacity immensely! I still want him to use this power system because it'll do wonders for what he's already amassed. It just sounds so deeply unfair. Perhaps all the systems are, but the consequences of gaps in power has never felt this direct before. I'm starting to notice a trend with this series. The better the society seems at a glance, the worse it really is lol. Rosemount seems like a better place to live in at first glance, but I have a feeling we're yet to see some truly horrible stuff done to the continent's poor that'll make Krysal's slave mines tame in comparison.
