Also, a lot of these rap girlies can’t speak up for Megan because the same audience that supports them, are the same ones who hate Megan. I think of someone like latto for example. Latto’s career is basically being carried by the shaderoom crowd. She, sexy red and maybe glo, will never be mainstream like the other girls because of their image and target demographic. At least with glo and sexy, they can still manage to get some club hits under their belt, but latto can’t. One, because her career was built on the backs of not only misogyny but colorism. That’s why in the beginning of her career she was calling herself “mulatto” to appear different from other black women, once she dropped that she didn’t have anything special about her, aka she’s boring. And two, because her music appeals to a specific group of black people. The ones who dwell in the shaderoom, watch baddies, are highkey colorist, love Chris brown and Tory lanez, the ones who defend abusers, talk down on women whom they deem to be a whore etc. And latto plays into that, which is why she’s always rapping about her low body count, doing interviews with twitch streamers, and has all of her music videos set at some strip club in some city in the southern part of the United States. Those people however, hate Megan. So even though Latto is cool with Megan, she won’t publicly defend her because most of her audience doesn’t like Megan.
