I’m a children’s librarian and I can’t wear logos or graphic tees at my library. 📚 I do believe dress code is important depending on the environment. I can’t show up in pajamas at work, but I can wear sweatpants and a hoodie and a bonnet to the store, and my mom still yells at me 😭😭😭

Something my mom would do is I couldn't buy no clothes that I couldn't wear to school. Even when I went to the mall with my friends. She'd give me just enough money to either buy some clothes I had no business being in or some food and a ticket to the movie afterwards.

I get your point, but I am not sure how this hypothesis can work in homogeneous societies like South Korea and Uganda for example where people are still expected to adhere to dress codes in school. I think this take is very relevant for the USA but can’t really be applied elsewhere.

Ugh the prom discourse is arguably worst too bc at times it turns into people become fashion police and criticizing what CHILDREN are wearing to prom!!! Like I’m sorry you are weird for nitpicking these kids on the internet we really don’t gaf if you think the dress/suit is ugly move along

i saw a tweet that said most of yall hate kids why are you hollering about teacher / student / parent dress codes…..i feel like school dress codes is just annual fall discourse at this point, like the prom dress discourse in the spring, by people who have no stake in the matter just nothing better to do
