Fair. I will note that a few times countries have cratered their economies by printing money. Also, I used games as my example because they have the most analogous form of new currency input to your worlds system (Direct combat reward). In those the typical elimination of money happens through repair costs or transaction taxes. I was just thinking that since coins were literally formed from residual mana that a way to turn them back to mana would be a way to eliminate them from the system.

Garrett Byers

I don't really want to get into a massive economics debate, because it's certainly not an area of expertise for me, but this isn't necessarily true. I'd just like to point out a couple things, the first being that as interesting as it is to analyze what happens in video games they are, at the end of the day, games that do not really accurately model real world systems. The second thing I'd like to point out is that what you are saying aligns with only one of the theories of inflation, the monetarism theory, part of the theory behind which states that increasing the supply of money in the economy will increase demand, and demand outstripping the amount of supply labor is able to produce leads to increases in long-term inflation(at least, that's how I understand the basics). There are several other theories of inflation, however, some that almost entirely oppose monetarism, such as the Post-Keynesian theory. I think my writing might also reflect that from the little study I've done, monetarism doesn't seem like it accurately encapsulates the reasons for inflation, so I don't tend to view the idea of more money being present as the kind of problem other people view it as.

If I remember correctly, people don't drop their coins when they die. I guess that will be how the system remove coins from circulation.

PickledTink

Ok, a question regarding the economy. You have a constant influx of new coins into the economy from killing monsters and dungeon rewards. Are there System mechanisms that remove roughly equivalent coins from circulation? I ask because without those kinds of mechanisms you end up with runaway inflation as the universe drowns in coins. It is a problem a lot of multiplayer games have to confront and deal with.

Isn't capitalism wonderful, at least if you're the one making bank... Thanks for the chapter!
