“Please leave me stranded, it’s so romantic” - New Romantics, 2014 “How dare you think it’s romantic leaving me safe and stranded?” - Down Bad, 2024 Also wanted to point out the “I remember” at the beginning of Question…? on Midnights seeming like a callback to the “I remember” in Out Of The Woods

Taylor hardly ever has surface level songs. She always has a message in her songs.
Grace
Rep only has two poppy songs tho
Neumann
no you don't understand, harry styles is just a bad driver and taylor will never let anyone forget it lmfao. no but seriously, the crash absolutely works as a great metaphor, too
María CR
I thought exactly the same thing at the time!!! 😭💔
María CR
I think some of her more "poppy" songs that you might not like are on Lover and Rep, but especially Lover, her worst album, although over time I've grown fond of it 😅
Shubham Bhandari
Oh my god you are so smart how you understood that its on and off relationship and the way you were right about the anxiety in out of the woods and that blank space from media perspective. Wow
Polina
I am so excited for your reputation and lover reactions. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I personally prefer them both to 1989 when it comes to taylor's pop albums.
Molly Cornelius
"I'm digesting this..." you say *right* before one of Taylor's most intense TaylorBridges starts bridging. LOL
Eternal Skies
girlll i know we’re still a ways away from it i’m assuming we’ll do it during Lover Era (which is why you should def do Rep next before Lover and end with Debut) but i’m soooo excited for your reaction to the Miss Americana Documentary likeee OMGG.
Eternal Skies
sooo excited for the vault tracks and the music videos omg
Molly Cornelius
You really don't get the full heartbreaking story of this Era without splicing in the Vault songs. Red was her messy breakup album. 1989 was supposed to be her New York Girl Boss of the Girl Squad album. She wasn't supposed to be getting her heart broken all over again. A lot of that devastation was written but hidden in the vault. The story is richer & more complex without the PR meddling with the truth.
Molly Cornelius
YES! Great catch. Blank Space is a creation of satire. Taylor was pissed & hurt, but also fascinated and amused by the crazy serial dater persona the media made her out to be. They were painting her as this psycho seductress destroying man after man for the breakup songs. She found the character wildly compelling. She thought, "y'know... that'd be a really fun character to write about." She does make fun of herself, but it was the media she left looking stupid.

clean- “it was months and months of back and forth” necee- OH GIRL WE KNOW 😂

Neecee, amazing reaction! It would be a crime not to also react to 1989 tour movie. It blew my mind…her vocals were incredible!

The song "You are in Love" is actually about Jack Antonoff, back in 2014 when the original 1989 was released, he was dating Lena Dunham at the time. But now Jack Antonoff is married to Margaret Qualley. And honestly, 1989 taylor's version was released perfectly on time in 2023, the same time Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley was married, and it caused a lot of chaos online because during their rehearsal dinner before their wedding, their location was leaked and THOUSANDS of swifties camped outside for taylor and was blocking the road, cops had to show up and kick everyone out of the rehearsal dinner. But other than that, definitely check out Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore's movie "The Substance" if you haven't already
halle
also make sure to do bad blood ft. kendrick!! and that music video is the best!
halle
this was so fun to watch!! can’t wait for the vault tracks. hope you listen soon
Marianna D
The way she sings in New Romantics “please leave me stranded, it’s so romantic” and then on TTPD in Down Bad “how dare you think it’s romantic leaving me safe and stranded” 💔
Jafet
Obviously I suggest listening to the original version casually and without recording it, it improves the experience greatly (only if you want).

Excellent video as always! First, I want to say that 1989 is my favorite album by far; it's simply perfect and worthy of being called "The Pop Bible". However, I must say that TV sadly doesn't do justice to this 2014 masterpiece, and I suggest listening to the original version with the original producers, as it's a completely different (and much better!) experience. One of the greatest examples of this is "Style" and "I Wish You Would." They're simply not the same. I hope you continue to give this incredible album more chances and that it begins to grow on you over time. I'm eagerly awaiting the reaction to the Vault Tracks and the tour!

You're in Love is based on Jack Antanoff's relationship at that time with Lena Dunham, while most of the songs on this album are about Harry Styles inlcuding the vault tracks. You analysed all of the songs quite well and once you watch the Grammy musuem session and 1989 tour video you'll get more context watching Taylor explain the concept and production. Love how attached you've become to Taylor's music and can appreciate and understand it from a better perspective now.

omg i’m so shocked you didn’t recognize wildest dreams!! i was waiting for it. it was SOOOOO popular one of her most popular songs it has 1b+ streams

I LOVE when you said "OF COURSE 2 AM. TAYLOR GO TO BED. IDC IF MIDNIGHTS BECOME YOUR AFTERNOONS, GO TO BED." Lmaoo. It's just funny now you speak in Taylor Swift lyrics like so many of us lmaooo. No for real, always 2 or 3 am hahaha SLEEP GIRL
Dev M
someone else in the comments linked the Grammy museum listening session and I second that 😊 https://youtu.be/SVGbjszns3A?si=Hyu4ZfZWyw7YfdZe

Clean is in my top 3 favorite songs of Taylor’s maybe even of all music lol. I also love wonderland, which seems to be a split opinion among swifties! I am glad you put it in your favs! :)
Jessica Martin
Love it!

Taylor said 1989 was inspired by 1980’s synth-pop. Also, named after her birth year as a symbolic rebirth of her as an artist. Swiftie joke that came out of this era: Harry Style’s is a horrible driver 😛
Cocogigi
That was fun Neecee! Can’t wait for you to see the 1989 videos and hopefully the Grammy Museum set, sooo good 🫶
Brianna
I know we have a ways to go, but I am dreamingggg of the day we get the eras tour!!! All in good time 🫶🏼🩷

I'm commenting before watching, I just wanna say I NEEDED this today 😭 I'm fighting bronchitis for a week now and now 2 of my kiddos are sick too! Just me bc hubby is working 6a-7p so I will be curling up with this video tonight after everyone is settled 🫶🏻

My new Taylor Swift fantasy is that some of her friends see this, save a clip of you yelling GO TO BED! YOU NEED TO BE IN BED BY 11PM!, and start texting it to her whenever they get worried.
Kat Alvarez
and the production you’re spot on taylor said she wanted i know places to sound like a spy movie lol
Kat Alvarez
so glad you noticed the pen click in blank space (i’ll write your name) and the tape recorder in i know places if you notice it’s clicked once at the beginning of the song and once at the end of the song, it’s ironic because taylor is basically singing the entire time about how she knows places where they can’t find them but the entire time they’re being recorded and they were listening
Jessica Martin
I’m only at your Out of The Woods reaction and your sigh at the end of it is exactly what it was meant to sound that. Taylor said it was supposed to feel like anxiety. And btw, you are so good at noticing when her production is intentional. Love it.
Grace
Another interesting fact is that the "stay" in All You Had To Do Was Stay was sung like that because Taylor had a dream where she was yelling for him to stay and she was screaming in that really high voice, so that's how she got the inspiration to sing it like that.
Stephanie
I’m only to your Blank Space reaction but you are so on the money about the tongue-in-cheek, sort of humorous aspect of that song! You NEED to react to her Grammy museum performances of that song, as well as Wildest Dreams and a couple others. She gives a bunch of background info about how she came up with the idea for Blank Space and she’s just so funny and it’s such a good performance.
KyraB
I loved the reaction. In addition to the 1989 tour and music videos I highly suggest the Grammy museum listening session and performances. Taylor talks about the making of 1989 then it goes into some great performances from that era. I included the link below for you. https://youtu.be/SVGbjszns3A?si=Hyu4ZfZWyw7YfdZe

As many have already said most of the album is about Harry styles and their on and off relationship. The bridge in out of the woods isn’t actually a metaphor (well it can be) Harry really did get in an accident in a snow mobile with Taylor and had to get stitches 😂 they also had paper airplane necklaces together so it mentions this too. Just for the vault songs keep in mind that they officially finally broke up on a boat and she wore a blue dress (it won’t make sense to you now but it will once you listen to the vault 😂) I myself don’t quite know all the details of the feud between Taylor and katy but I believe it was about katy stealing Taylor’s dancers right under her and that pissed off taylor. There is so much content for 1989 more so than any of her other albums, I can’t wait for you to see it all! The music videos, the live performances, her tour! And of course the vault tracks which I gotta say it’s the best vault we have for a re-record it’s top tier
Deema Nusair
In wildest dreams youre not crazy she actually used her own heartbeat
Brandi Smith
Style is very seemingly about Harry Styles….. most songs on 1989 are rumored to be about their on again, off again relationship.
NM
Ps, there is a deluxe Taylor’s version with an extra song at the end (after the vaults), and I think it would be worth listening to
ina
your hair!!!
Mark Battison
Clean is one of my favourite songs she has ever written. Also alot of this album is about Taylor’s relationship with Harry Styles…. Song “style” is about them Out of the woods bridge is about them being in a car crash Pretty sure there are more but I don’t know all the lore
Grace
OMG YES!!! HERE WE GO BTW this album is about Harry Styles and just so you know, all the car crashing lyrics are metaphors but also literal cause Harry was a horrible driver 😂😂 Taylor and Katy were beefing for quite a while (it was such a big fued on the interent during that time) but they made up during the lover era and now are friends again. So all is good lol Another detail that I think you should remember is that they broke up on a boat and Taylor was wearing a blue dress. If you want, look up "Taylor blue dress boat" and that moment was right after she broke up with Harry, the picture looks so sinister lol
Kat Alvarez
one direction has an album called “take me home” also
Kat Alvarez
most of this album is speculated to be about harry styles himself the song style being the most obvious
Brandi Smith
Ready for it!!!!!!
Dev M
style is likely about harry styles! speculation is that quite a few 1989 songs are about her on and off relationship with him. I'm half an hour in and already pleasantly surprised by your reaction 😊 I'm glad you're liking it so far!
Kat Alvarez
OMG YASSSS
