How does the armor handles a breach? I mean, she is going to spend at least one year there, if there is a breach lets say in one hand, the magical stuff will filter in, no? Will the armor just cut off the arm seal the zone and eject the damaged limb, like a salamander's tail? Is there some kind of space anti-magic goo she can apply to the breach? Nanomachines son?

Oval Pot

Certainly a theory of all time

Michael Halpern

That's the great part, letting the library keep it or at least one of them, when school is done, in exchange for providing safe keeping and access to it in the meantime to submit her reports and be provided information from home. remember, the Library is Eternal, that means it can be patient and the ECS is an access point to a crap ton of knowledge

Blake S

It will be funny if evi starts including commoner terms of phrase in emas translations without knowing thier context

Skrzynek

Or if not a full visualization, some kind of visual ping on the source, and tooltip on likely type of magic used. Like a flashing area in the screen and "[DEFENSIVE SPELL]" written on it. This is FAR from actually seeing the world like natives do, in color and vibrancy and all, but it is gonna be an utilitarian shorthand.

Skrzynek

While it would protect it from agents of the Nexus, it also leaves the communication device in the hands (wings? Paws?) of a third party that, while rather cordial so far, is at it's heart some kind of ageless eldritch being. It makes her communication with home reliant on an entity that may not only leverage this to get more info or favors, but also we have seen that Library can be successfully attacked by a precise strike. Oh, and don't forget that the more time the Library observes Emma's tech, the more it learns and understands, at a staggeringly fast pace actually. Leaving ECS there, electronics and all, is a risky manouver.

Ragnar Pendon

Hey man, I was just spitballing from left field 😂

Skrzynek

What gives you that idea? If anything, him being "tenth of the name" suggests they do have lifespans that very much run their course. And it may be he just didn't see a library card for a long time, the fact that it says "Seeker" on it need not mean much to him.

I generally find that lately I am speaking my mind about the chapter mostly in the voice chat following the weekly reading on discord server, and then I don't actually write down what I thought in here. This time, I'll write it down too! So here goes, my favorite things in this chapter: - the guild master, DUH! I loooove how it breaks immediate expectations about this being some run-of-the-mill "generic" while at the same time using BUT TWISTING some recent tropes in pop-fantasy! A very colorful character, that one, even if the similarities to Ramiru are a tad on the nose. - the way in which you give us this immersive and detailed interior of the guild house was sublime, and a big improvement on the description of the spaces in say, first chapters when we got the dorms. I could actually visualize the spaces there, and mentioning "west wing/ east wing" felt like having a dungeon master describe the area to players, in a good way. I guess it's also very apt, given it's an ADVENTURING guild! :v - we know it from you mentioning it in the voice chat, but Emma doesn't yet know that there is a divide between language of the nobles and language of the commoners, sort of like with warhammer's High Gothic / Low Gothic divide. The seeds planted here work beautifully! - and of course, my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE, was someone used to abuse being shown genuine kindness. The satyr boy getting the plate tickled my thirst for unconditional kindness, and I thank you very much for it!

Ooooh Evi is starting to pick up on magic in a context specific sense now. She picked out the disguise magic on that guys leg and at the jym the other day she was able to detect magically reinforced constructs as well. It seems like evi may be able to acheive mana visualization without any major hardware updates to be had.

T_witch21

Thalmin misread I think.

T_witch21

It wasn't Ping. It was the little one.

Michael Halpern

in 2 weeks

Rust

great as always! can't wait for chapter 100!

Michael Halpern

almost nil, that's exactly the sort of thing i'd expect someone so self righteous to do

Canpinter

So what are the odds that the "Ping" that attacked Thalmin was really a slime hired by some third party.

Michael Halpern

The Library is apolitical, one of the few entities of significance to be such, yes it looks to further it's own ends, but it is upfront about it and the exchange is equitable. more than that, you are unlikely to be discarded for your efforts, after all if you are a source of knowledge, it is in the Library's interest to help you.

Willow Arkan

I suspect the guild master is more amenable to an agent of the library then to anyone from the academy, he definitively seems more interested as a result. Also Emma sowing some more seeds with the "lowborn"

Gabu

This: "us to follow closely in tow into a space that was as grand as it was on the inside, as the outside had led me to believe." Is a bit awkward, I think what was being aimed for was: "us to follow closely in tow into a space that was as grand on the inside, as the outside had led me to believe.

Michael Halpern

she's going to leave the ECS with the library..

Benjamin Lamb

In before the slime reveals that it was a human once that came through a portal to this world…

King Jerkera

Agreed peak fiction indeed.

DarkValorWolf

I feel like a short paragraph of the Hooded Man appreciating Emma's armour, as the red-blooded warrior he is, would fit well here.

Ragnar Pendon

Ah yes... time for the reveal that slimes are as ageless as the nexus itself

Pierre Florendo

The "name pending" threw me off for a second 😅
