Michael Halpern

any organic matter should be good feedstock for the plastic bits

John the Gamer

Problem: She probably has a limited quantity of synthetics available to her. Might be better of mass-producting Pencils instead. Wood, glue and graphite should be available in the pre-industrial Nexus.

Michael Halpern

pretty sure the suit can write

Anton

I'm curious to see what the solution for writing will be since Emma doesn't actually know how to speak - much less write - High Nexian. Portable printer? Armor is programmed to write in Nexian? Buy a magic pen and dictate?

Michael Halpern

60% literacy to 90% in a couple decades

DragonHeart53

We honor the fallen, borh real and in fiction. 07

Fienryra

The last half reminds me of this one manga I read where a guy from another world convinces a group of dwarves to weld him a train because he gives them a ballpoint pen lol, it’s crazy to actually read the history of ballpoint pens and how much it changed society

Michael Halpern

wonder if Sorecar will get Mifis to do a commission after seeing the work.

Lorventus

Agree, but also down with kings!

Brachy LP

Nah this is Helldivers Or Warframe Maybe even DnD or Shadowrun

Medical-Cyanide

Aww, damn I suffer the flaw of apathy at times but damn that ending almost got me. Nice touch to acknowledge those that came before in a respectful manner

Michael Halpern

'Ilunor’s eyes narrowed at the thin, sleek, plastic tube. A look of knowing concern quickly forming, if only to be replaced by that same haughty persona. “Is that supposed to impress me, earthrealmer?”  ' oh Ilunor you have No idea just how much of a flex in manufacturing capability that thing is. Your greatest manufacturiums likely can scarcely dream of making something so precise in such quantity,

Michael Halpern

if Em prints out a printer configured for pens, she may have her finances addressed.

Michael Halpern

Technically that's with a fancy writing surface, rather than with a fancy pen, however Emma not being impressed likely gives him enough to infer based on what he has already seen the tablet do. hell he probably knows how traditional paper animation can be done, just takes more work and paper.

Michael Halpern

i wonder if the sales associate will react. could be a good export best part is, they could make them with agri waste, water, iron, nickel, chromium, copper and tin (all metals in the nib itself) and just have a printer go BRRR.

Michael Halpern

Ilunor is trying to gauge Earthrealm as it compares to the Nexus. Consider his position, he needs to inform the people who he is to represent on who to side with or to not get involved,

Michael Halpern

he's trying to find a "safe space" for the Nexus. Something, anything that the Nexus has that Earthrealm lacks an answer to, even though Earth lacks portal transit and teleportation, he has already seen hints as to how Earth logistics is superior in every other respect, so that's hardly a win.

Michael Halpern

establishing a rough exchange rate would be difficult, i suppose she could use hand made (with help of power mixers, for worker safety) bread as compared to 20 packs of pens

Brachy LP

Honestly even before here everytime they share Some moments there was Chemistry, they both in their Own ways are Isolated Figures within Hostile Worlds. Also I ship it since the NetNarrator Days

Michael Halpern

Pilot 1's name was never revealed

SoylentPudding

In most realms he's correct, not because nobles are inherently better, but historically, generally the nobles, clergy, and the merchant class, if one exists, were the only ones afforded the opportunity to study and train those skills. The vast majority are spending their lives laboring in farms, mines, or weaving textiles from sunup to sundown.

SoylentPudding

Density Affector?

SoylentPudding

I assume it's either the call sign, or OPSEC. Really it's so the audience knows who's she's talking about because I get most readers don't remember pilot 1's name.

SoylentPudding

He did that a couple times for the peer group in PE. I think we're gonna see more of that as he is starting to accept that his fate and his school standing is tied to Emma whether he likes it or not.

SoylentPudding

I'm going to have to dig out my old "go to horny jail" memes.

Blake S

At least the pen nerds in the shop will apreciate it.

Blake S

My pleasure is imesaurable and my day has been made.

Pyrion

Cursive, however, is a dying art.

Nul Atlas

Bakalite maybe

Nul Atlas

Also " display cases were placed in the middle of the room in 3 feet intervals. " That should be 3 foot intervals, it rolls off the tongue between and is grammatically correct.

Raju Kakka

So real

Nul Atlas

When I read "My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined" I giggled and kicked my fucking legs like a school girl goddamn

Steve

This story ain’t about him lol

Michael Halpern

same

Ragnar Pendon

Unless it went full jeje and it's actually mani2a XD

Ragnar Pendon

I've been shipping them since before I went patron Yes... yes they will

Lorventus

It would stop happening if he stopped being a shallower than a flat surface. So far his only genuine moments have been nice, but he's so focused on appearances that it's kinda gross.

Lorventus

Ilunor is so stuck up, oNlY nObLeS cAn Do ThIs. Pull out a stylus and draw on the tablet. *Anyone* can do *this*. Fancy writing is not that special.

astatine

Shadowrun, I assume. A cyberpunk fantasy RPG series

Jcb112

Its a reference to Shadowrun! :D

Cory Zilligen

"It was probably the latter of those two observations that probably gave Ilunor some pause as his mouth hung agape at Emma’s display." You should probably drop the second "probably". Probably. ;)

Michael Halpern

Time for Emma to secure assets like in the Great Impact series (Mass Effect)

Michael Halpern

it could have been redacted for her,

Steve

“Running Shadows universe” what is this is a reference to?

morbonator

"Wish you were here, Pilot 1." Surely she must know his name, right?

Scott Repplinger

Dark angels inbound apparently

UC-79

Illunor's ability to passive-aggressively insult any given person, thing, or place around him is impressive, if only he would pick fights he can win instead of trying to out-flex emma.

Michael Halpern

hills on Mars were named after Columbia's final crew.

Michael Halpern

his gaudiness got upstaged by stylistic simplicity

Canpinter

Emma "you know the difference between you and me llunor?" *Puts on a pair of power armor sizes sunglasses* "I make this look good"

Michael Halpern

way ahead of you

Michael Halpern

" As the elevator lowered us further towards a familiar, yet strikingly different figure that now stood in the middle of the cluttered emporium. A decidedly dashing figure, which I could not for a moment disengage my gaze from." Reddit will go wild over this

Logos

Should've drawn a stussy S. These xenos don't know about the power of earth realm runes.

Blake S

BALLPOINT PEN GUY WHERE THE FUCK YOU AT BOOOOOIIIIII!!!!!!!! YOUR TIME HAS COME!!!!!!!! @Michael Halpern!!! I summon Theeeeeeee Lleeetttsss gooooooo

Michael Halpern

they might have some milk derived plastics, those are ANCIENT.

Charlie V

Love the ballpoint pen direction and all the implications that come with it. But I think we're skipping right over plastic. From what I gather, they don't have it. That's huge in and of itself.

Michael Halpern

Someone is going to get at least a treddle sewing machine. if not a battery one with a solar charger

Pierre Florendo

Love it. One little nitpick: if you're referring to the Filipino city, it's "Manila".

Keith Churchill

On her tablet I believe

Mr von Twistern

Emma is going for the Primarch Look I see

Rust

Amazing. Love this chapter, great balance for pace and content. Welcome back JCB, looking forward to the next one! :)

Ferr

I wonder if Ilonur is ever goner find out how cheap and just commonen the pen are.

JaxonJak

On one hand, annoying Ilunor. On the other, continually upstaged Ilunor. Rather satisfying.

ArdenW

Aww... that's really sweet, Emma.

NicMagnum222244

See you space cowboy

Michael Halpern

didn't Emma write a message to Thecea in class about figuring out a way to see manafields

Willow Arkan

that's sweet, a simple sentiment for her predecessor, whose death safeguarded her own life.

Michael Halpern

yay pens also great demonstration on a vertical surface. ball points are really impressive things of engineering and precision

Venidlara

Can't wait for both reactions to not only the manaless method of the pen to write without requiring an external inkwell, but also at how clean the ball-point pen is

@Alphamoonman

'My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined' Goddamnit, you goofball

Anders Mostue

Surprisingly enough, a name plaque on the moon contains all names of astronauts and cosmonaut that have died by the time Apollo 15 reached the Moon. So honoring those that have come before is tradition. We stand on the shoulders of giants. And Emma is on the peak of those shoulders looking down.

Jcb112

Not personally nope! They were separated by roughly 20 years. However, she does know of him through interviews conducted of him within the facility, as well as facility logs and the stories that a lot of the original IAS staff told her of him! He was almost like a ghost that never left the facility, even after she took his place. At least, that's what it felt like for the large part of her training given the baggage associated with his legacy! :D

Raju Kakka

That last line... Peak🔥

Andrew Lechner

Huh, did Emma know the original Student sent through the portal?
