In panel 2, there is a rabbit in the center, I believe a giraffe on the right, and some kind of horned species way in the back on the left. I thought the same thing until I really started looking.

Yeah, in my research I found out there's a convent of nuns that have an 'order of the bear' kind of name. I was like 'a bear nun is a brilliant idea' so I put that in there, and gave her those extra long claws as a hint of 'you better be obedient' haha!

Grayscale looks just fine. And the background on the second frame turned out to be very clear and detailed. The day was not wasted.)) But that clawed hand on Olivia's shoulder looks ominous.

I think I was trying to get some subtle prejudice in there. The rough draft for the first page had the nuns explicitly showing disdain for her being an oryx.

I should maybe rewrite that bit, but the implication is that she's an oryx, so she's rather unique for the area (Ontario, Canada). She's also from Quebec, so she's doubly an outsider for this school.
