Well if you think about it, it would be inaccurate to call them directly monks or nuns too. Because this group tends to marry outsiders with at least high holy affinities to continue their divine beast bloodline and also to avoid inbreeding..

Kevin Jalop

What's the point of calling them monastics,? Why not monks or nuns?

Glad that Lucian found someone to open up to. I feel it will be more interesting than just having him suffer through it all alone. All of Mirian's questions will probably be paced out over multiple chapters, but I feel that once she gets the chance to think it through, she'll definitely ask Lucian for everything he knows about her disease. Maybe the details he does know will help speed up the development of a cure. Telling her about how the disease was modified before release would be pretty big. Charlton has spent all this time trying to cure the disease, but he hasn't even realized that the disease he designed isn't the one currently afflicting the elves. That might be why he hasn't ever been able to develop his cure.

Oh Helen, the reason why Lucian has arcane paralysis and his sister is mentally disabled, is so very simple: their parents are cousins.

yes I agree fully perfect bow I don't have to write an essay in the comments Nice!!! I actually expect Sherlock Holmes to figure out EVERYTHING (he might not be able to tell exactly where the foreknowledge of Lucian comes from because he simply doesn't know of earth's existence but to that point everything else...) He'll easily recognize Lucian now as genuinely good person and probably say "As Expected of one with such a high Holy Affinity" just to satisfy authors (justified) pride at this running gag... and then He'll probably slowly start uncovering firsz what exactly the Duke and Duchess did to their children and simultaneously very quickly figure out that Lucian success is rather unique... he might well be the next big ally after Heavenwatch Monestary after finding out about tge demons...

Always heartwarming to have the homies look out for you. We've seen Cyril as an ice-cold pragmatist, someone who's always in control, but he was also described to have an incredible temper—I bet future events including him will have him lose his composure as he sees so many random influential people earnestly defend him. He definitely expects this to be a routine chore. Funnily enough, while Lucian thinks Helen's father is going to suss him out for just genuinely being a cretin, I severely doubt it's going to go that way. Unlike Argrave, he's a very poor liar, an open book—Sherlock will definitely figure out the kind of person he is. Despite him constantly underplaying his actions and valor, and hiding behind undeserved self-deprecation, he's a genuinely nice guy that's just trying to keep it all together. Since him being just straight up a different dude is rather unbelievable, he'll probably end up trusting his judgement that Lucian's not the kind of character to engage in all the criminal activities he's accused of. And considering Cyril is a sociopath that's actually connected to these events (even Helen's connected the dots), if he is as stalwart about enacting justice as he is implied to be, he might end up zealously defending Lucian, to the shock of all his detractors. That's just my guess. Lucian might also have trouble keeping any secrets from him, that might arouse suspicion, so there's some potential drama there too. It depends if he's a similar goody-two-shoe like Helen or not. Cyril's been very dominant in every social engagement with Lucian so far, considering how poorly Lucian handles people that he doesn't know and plan for, so it will be gratifying to see his flabbers gasted. P.S. Lucian could totally use his spontaneous asphyxiation trick to cause intrigue by implying he's been cursed to silence & garner sympathy.

Happy Thanksgiving Nemo and folks!

Maybe not Helen, but we got most of the Monastics probably thinking that way because as “expected as someone with a high holy affinity” ha

Ty for the chapter! 🫡

I was hoping Helen would think Lucian was some kind of holy saint instead of a failed experiment. It would play into the whole last inquisitor, lord of Heavenwatch Monastary, husband of elves thing. The man who conquered his nature to save the world instead of a phony.
